Swim Pond Training 4-29-10

Had a good time today with my Dad, Ann and Aubrey, Nora, Abram, and Jada. Dane slept all day, so he missed out!!!

We worked a lot of young dogs and got to see some very nice progression as the day went on. Took this picture of one of the swims, I thought this was a picture of when Edge was in the water and Dice's take off, but I'm not so sure. The tail coming out of the water is far too red. Ann and Aubrey would probably be able to identify the dogs. Either way I thought this was a neat picture.

Thanks for the great time today, can't wait till we can all meet up again!!

I fired up last night after giving Tater a break. Took him and JJ.
First drop. Cast them. They wee out about 10 minutes when Tater struck in. Cold track. He worked it for about 15 minutes, then JJ struck in. They pushed the track down a creek. JJ threw her locate first. Tater a split second later threw his. They had the meat. This was new spot. They were is some nasty stuff. I forgot to look were I was when I walked in. Stood there looking around complaining about Aub's dog taking me into it.
Second drop. I cast Tater first. He went out about a 100 yards. Came back to see what JJ was up to. He found out that wasn't a good idea. He went back out and a struck in right away. I cast JJ into him. They worked this track back and forth threw the creek.
Tater at one point got hung up and didn't want to cross.
Found out later, water was deeper than I thought. Done filled my boots. Took him just long enough. He finally crossed and then JJ treed. They had the meat. If he hadn't of hesitated that 10 seconds or so. I think he would of had first tree. Goof ball. But he is getting better at pushing tracks thru the water. I'm going back there tonight..
Enjoy.

Brandon & Carl, we had a good time too. I think that is Dice in the air and Edge in the water.

Tim, I think we should be good on handlers, but if something changes, we'll let you know. Thanks.

Scott, great updates/videos/calls on "Da Machine"!

Aubrey and Jesse went hunting on Friday night. Aub took Rip & Dice, and Jesse took his Walker pup, Diamond. Had a fun night and treed a few coon.

Rip and Dice are looking nice.
Took Tater and JJ. We went back to the new spot. I cast Tater and kept JJ leash locked till Tater struck. He pushed the track for a while before JJ struck in. They ended up in a nasty willow snag.
This will be the last time I hunt it till fall. When I can find my way out. LOL Just thick and nasty. Circle it.
Second drop. Kept JJ leashed. Tater strikes and I cast JJ. Tater grubbed this track out for about 20 minutes. JJ never struck. Tater threw his locate followed by JJ. We were pretty close to a house and right on the property line. Quick shine. Circle it. LOL and get out of dodge. Don't want some lil ol lady yelling at me again. Geez. They have no sense of humor..
3rd drop. Tater saved the best or last.
We're walking in. We crossed a track. All I could do to drag them. Get to the woods. I cast Aub's dog. Yep, there he goes. Right back to the track. He strikes and he pushes it right back to the woods. Sweet. Cast JJ. I heard them both for all of 30 seconds. Dead silence. I walk up the big hill. I could hear Aub's dog way off in one direction and JJ in another. I head for Aub's dog. He's in the direction of a busy road. It didn't take long and I realized he had crossed and was heading DEEPER. I think he was looking for Aub's house. By the time I caught up we might have been in vernon county. I heard him tree. It still took me 15 minutes to get to him. Just has I got there my me twoer rolled in on the tree.
Aub's dog had the meat. Calculated distance from strike to tree. 1.5 miles.
He's not just a purdy dog.
He's been on holy terror the last two nights. The layoff did him good. Two more nights of running and then another break.

Scott
The deep tree. I think it's right behind Aub's....

Hey congrats on Dan's win Carl. I missed your post.

Did 3 drops with Tater.

1st drop had the meat
2nd drop. I'll have to minus him on this one. I gave it a good shine. I think I would have seen it.
3rd drop. Pulled him. He was headed toward the farm. Nothing between him and the farm buildings. Called him in and packed it up.
Kits are down. Pretty sure thats what happened on the 2nd drop. Track was all over the place.
Say goodnight deadeye...

Tonight's Hunt

I didn't get out till after 11pm and decided to hunt Edge alone. Bruizer was giving me the puppy eyes when I was back getting Edge, so Bruizer went hunting too.

Only did one drop. BRUIZER struck first, pushed a track to a woven wire fence where Edge was hung up, but Bruizer made it thru but apparently didn't want to leave his buddy. Helped Edge thru and Bruizer and Edge were now running both hard and wide open across a freshly planted corn field. Next tree was about 500 yards away. Bruizer and Edge were running all over the place and not with each other. Starting to wonder what they were running or if the track was just that cold with all the zig zagging and running around this HUGE field that they were doing. Heard Edge throw his locate so I started walking to him. About 100 yds from the tree I was met by Bruizer. Bruizer quickly said hello and left again. Walking into Edge and I caught eyes away from Edge up by a big oak. There was Bruizer at the bottom of the tree about 80 yards from Edge. Wouldn't you know there was eyes looking back at me as well in the top of the tree of the amber colored variety. Went over tied him up and went to Edge. Edge had a coon as well in a small box elder. Guess that explains the running around in the field that they were doing, let alone it had been dark for hours. I was pretty impressed with Bruizer getting by himself and finishing the track and being there with Edge treeing like a mad man less than a 100 yds away. "WORK IN PROGRESS"

Forgot to mention, cut the dogs and 20 yds in front of them was a big nasty looking possum. I thought for sure I was in trouble, but I kept my mouth shut to see what would happen. Edge went blazin right by it and Bruizer decided to give it one quick sniff and that's all it took and he then kept on motorin. Not sure how much off game he's been exposed to on our nightly adventures, but I know there has been no discipline for messing with off game.

Kits are down Brandon. It can make for some long nites with young dogs. They can't seem to settle in on one track. They go from one track to another, etc.
But it sure is fun...

The coon I saw were some good 'uns. I could definetely tell the one Edge had would've brought top dollar in the hide department. I know there is a big den tree not too far from where we were, kinda wonderin if the coon got their kits to safety and then ran Edge and Bruizer off and almost got caught in the process. It was windy so I honestly can't say, but I thought I might've heard a coon growl where Bruizer was, but I would've thought I'd a heard a lot more of a commotion... Prolly just the wind playin tricks on me.

Nice job, Carl! Why don't you come on over our way and shoot a few more?

Bill Gudgeon and Krista went out with Aubrey last night. Aubrey took Rip, Foxxy, Ox, and Dice, and Bill took Mandy and Moon. Sounds like they had a good time. Split treed five times. Here's a few pics:

Ellie Mae was GORGEOUS and I have to say.... these are the NICEST folks! Mike was the most mature 16 yr old... he AND his brother are so POLITE! We look forward to seeing them all again and HOPE to get to see these dawgs in the woods! Neither gal wanted to swim in the water race... despite having swum the night before ... musta had some comp. nerves! Bob got some pix of them in the field trail, treeing contest and on the bench etc and I'll just post the link. As much as I had THE BEST day and felt VERY good, even this morning... having to CATCH UP ON HERE is KILLER and I don't want to think much longer SO HEre is the link...

You're right Heather. Scott , Mike and Steve are the nicest guys. I've had the pleasure of meeting them twice. They're trying to come out to Red Fever's this summer sometime to run their dogs.
I'm looking forward to it!!
Daphne is Tater's full littermate sister and she is gorgeous. I typcally don't like them that dark. But it fits her. I was hoping they were coming out here for RBD's. I was hoping to show her and Tater together in the hunting pairs. Thought it would have been cool to see. But you ca't have everything. LOL
Hope you feel better. Say hey to Bobby boy and thanks for the pix.

Scott

GOOD thing YOU weren't there with Tater...I'd have SNUCK him off into my Suburban I tend to prefer the darker red but man if they are well put together I can handle any shade. Daphne simply GLOWS...and is Just Right! WIl Say Hi to BobbyBoy when I see him... I've been dead on sofa...he's been BUSY doing outside stuff... I'm missing a beautiful day....
I'll feel tons better with Fresh Air! Heather

Heather - Great to hear you got to meet Scott, Steve, and Mike! They are a wonderful family, and we're so thankful to have them as friends and fellow Redbone hunters! Congrats to Steve and Mike with their wins with the girls this weekend. CH Red Fever Bandit Beware (Ellie Mae) won Champion female Friday night, and CH Red Fever Darkside (Daffney) won Champion femlae on Saturday. Daffney also won line and tree in her heat in the field trial! Congrats guys!

Alex Auringer and Josh Rain came down last night for a hunt. They brought Brodie and Rev (an 8 month old Rip X Foxxy pup). A great time was had by all. The night started out a little slow, but picked up later, and they got a few coon treed. Bill Gudgeon also joined them later in the hunt with Mandy and Moon. Aubrey was very impressed with how well Rev did for only his 3rd night to the woods....keep up the good work with him Alex & Josh!

Here's just a few pics - Aubrey must have been slacking last night in the picture taking department.....there wasn't too many on the camera!

Rip, Ox, Aubrey, Alex, Brodie, Josh, and Rev

Rev treed

Rip - this tree ran into another tree, and coon was seen

Aubrey and Ann ~ Thanks so much for having us for a hunt! We had a great time! I wish we would have seen Brodie and Rev's coon but it was pretty thick in there. We sure got a kick out of the picture Aubrey showed us of Rip when we went to get the dogs leashed up! We were very proud of Rev that night, we will definately be getting him in the woods a lot more! Hopefully we'll come for a hunt again when he's really pounding! All the dogs did a good job! Thanks again!

oh yeah, Scott! glad tater was doing good for you! you seemed like you had a better start then us and made sure to tease us! Hahaha

Thanks again for the fun hunt!

-Alex and Josh

LOL Aub and I are kind of competive. Well maybe me more.
It soon fell apart after the last call. It just flat out got ugly. It was the second time that night I ended up where I wasn't suppose to be. There was no third time. I called it a night.
I was mud from head to toe. That's what happens when your forced to go into stealth mode. It's hard to avoid things when you can't see.
Glad it all worked out for you guys.

I'm cleaning out my no longer used gun. I have a .22 bolt action 10 round clip and a 3 X 9 scope Shoot me a pm if your interested.

Scott

Aubrey had a fun hunt last night with Carl Gudgeon & Dan Brozek. Even with all the heat & humidity, the dogs made 6 trees. Here's a few pics:
