Hi,

Thanks for sending me your hunt schedule for 2016. Glad to see you are back with the Federation. Maybe we can work in some ACHA hunts?

Thanks for the compliment, Mike. I try very hard to produce a nice dual purpose pup. Everyone wants a young dog, but I just don't have one. If I have a young dog, it is to keep for my breeding program. The only way to get one of
these dogs, is to buy a pup.

Gr Ch Starke's Finley River Iron Man

Hi,

Iron Man looks like he is going to produce. Steel and Fame can be seen on this thread on a 104+ day treeing a coon by scent. They could not see the coon. They are treeing hard. Can you count Steel's bpm? He can bark faster than you can count, lol. Fame doesn't tree as hard, but she has a good mouth also. She will flat go hunting on her own. She is not afraid of the dark.

Little Super Man has a mouth few hounds get. Call Jeff at 660-888-1717, I have nothing to hide. I have little Cozy here and money won't buy her.

Steel and Fame are out of a Finley River linebred cross back to Finley River Chief 126 times.

Super Man and Cozy are out of a granddaughter of Durbin's Rambler, Cadillac Jane, out of my Lill female that has passed away. Rambler goes back to Trap.

The Hunt

Hi,

Jeff will have to help me with the details of this hunt as I don't remember all of them.

Friday night we went hunting. I don't remember what time. Jeff had already hunted Iron Man, who never made a bark on the ground. He threw his head in the air and after awhile, he sat down and treed. He is a layup artist.

We met at Charlie's and visited for awhile. Then we went hunting. We took Bud, Tanna, and little Trap.

We drove up to a creek bottom with steep hills. Made me think of "sleepy hollow". We cut the happy hunters loose. Tanna struck with Bud right behind. The next barks were tree barks. They had treed in a large cottonwood tree with so many vines it looked like leaves were still on.

We finally found the coon. His mask was the only thing you could see. His body color matched the tree and vines. Jeff shot and the coon kicked. I yelled," shoot him". That was the biggest coon I have ever seen. Jeff shot again. The coon fell down on the limb and mass of vines, dead.

We shot and shot and shot, but we could not get that coon to fall out. Trap and Tanna would just tree that much harder, thinking that coon was coming out any minute. I told Jeff we needed to come back and cut that tree fork down and get that coon. We would put it in the freezer and win the big coon contest this weekend at Paris, lol.

We walked back to the truck and loaded the juvenile hunters. We drove down the road a few miles and turned loose in a wheat field, white as snow with frost, surrounded by hundreds of acres of hardwood forest.

We turned the "young guns" loose. They had already had their heads in the air and off they went in a dead run for the woods. They were probably 50 yards inside the woods when Tanna and Bud opened. They drove that track about a mile and slammed that tree.

After arriving at the tree, we discovered it was a huge den tree with a long wide split.

We worked the females on that tree and then started that long walk back to the truck, uphill of course, lol.

That truck sure did look good to an old man,lol. Just another enjoyable hunt in the river hills of the wide ole Missouri. You could look out across that high plateau for miles across the bottoms. Dusk to dawn lights filled the fields, like so many fireflies. The smell of the cold, crisp, air on a frosty night, reminded me of hunts long ago. The pitch dark of the night sky and billions of stars hung in space by The Almighty was humbling.

We loaded the dogs and I petted Bud extra for his efforts. I hugged Tanna and Trap. I thanked the Lord for all his kindness and the dogs he has blessed me with over the years.

I settled into the truck with that warm air flowing in the cab and thought how content I was and at peace with the world.
I hope we can maintain our freedom to hunt in these perilous days ahead. God bless America, keep her safe and strong. So many people in today"s world, hate us and want us dead. Why? Is it because we cherish freedom and equality? Equal opportunity to chase our dreams no matter how small or how great they may be? our hunt. We had a good hunt. Good and fast tracking and
good treeing. Those coons knew right where they were
going. All I can say is It was a good thing!!!!!!!

The Hunt

Hi,

Tanna and Bud sure do like to hunt together and drive those tracks.

Track and tree dogs. I love to hear them. They hunt, run and tree so much alike, I wonder if they are related?

That was the longest bottom I believe I ever walked across.
I sure wish Charlie would have told me not to turn loose on that huge coon that crossed the road, lol. How many miles did we walk back to the truck?

We had a blast. Bluetick and Walker. Just like the old days.

Hi,

Got April home. She acts just like Lill. I love those Rambler dogs. April has an ear problem that affects her performance. I think we have found a remedy to fix her problem. I look forward to raising a litter and hunting her.

Hi,

Zig was a producer. He didn't live long enough and I didn't breed him enough. I miss him every day. He was a coon dog any where you turned him loose. He made good dogs look pretty common in January and February.

His pups are independent,fast on track, good mouths and are looking to tree a layup.

Finley River Spot

Hi,

I miss this little female. I just loved her and I have raised enough pups to be very confident that she was going to be special. I can't keep them all. I sent her to Jason Clark so he could breed her to Whiner. Ramblin Jane's littermate.

Jason only got one female. I will get one out of the next litter. I will breed this pup back to Iron Man.

Iron Man is very independent. He can work up a bad track, tree it, and have the coon. He can also throw his head in the air and tree a layup. He does not need a track. On a hot track, he can make Mr. Coon climb or suffer the consequences. He will split tree at any time and have a coon.

I must remind you, he is not a coondog yet. What he does, he does as natural as can be.

Finley River Spot (Starkes Finley River Zig x Starkes Ramblin Jane)

Spot had very limited hunting when i first got her do to the fact i was getting one of my other dogs ready for the qualifiers in the area, then the zones. But after that was all set and done i started hunting Spot and in a short time i could plainly see, This female had the patential to be world class. She leaves like she was shot out of a gun, opens quick with a big OL' screaming bawl, and fast,fast,fast. She Drifts a old bad track screaming here and there and covering ground like ive only seen a couple dogs do in my life time. And when she comes onto that OL' Hard wood there is absolutely no question when this female is tree'd, you want to talk about a Screaming Locate that will just make the hair stand up on your neck.. 2 or 3 - wwWWRRRRAAAAA - wwWWRRRRAAAAA - wwWWRRRRAAAA and after that i mean Every breath Tree Dog with the meat....hahaha She just tickles me pink every time i take her out.

She is young, and getting better every time i take her out. She is not a seasoned coon dog yet and still better than most. I have high hopes for this female and her pups. i Plan on finishing her out this year which shouldnt be a problem at all. She already is becoming the hard to find kind. I like her, I love her, and she will never leave my hands.

Iron Man treed pic

Hi,

Art Kiger posted a pic of Iron Man treed. I cant remember exactly what night this was, but it was cold. Ran an old cold cold track and treed the coon on the outside.

Sid and Iron Man ran a cold track one night recently. They worked it up cold and split treed. Both had a coon. Both stayed treed and held pressure. Jeff was hunting them that night. You can read his post.

I know it gets old hearing this, but that is what Finley River is all about.

Hi,

I doubt it. Doesn't make him tree any more coons than a nontitled dog. I don't have my time tied up doing something I don't enjoy.

I make them a gr bench ch., which he is. I will make him an HTX Ch. and that's it.

A titled dog means nothing to me after 45 years of hunting. I want to see one go by itself and let's see what it can do. Our coondog population is full of me too dogs.

I breed the same line of dog for the last 40 years. They have nothing to prove to me. Come for a hunt, or call Jeff Wyatt, 660-888-1717. He has hunted with most of my dogs. He will not blow smoke.

Hi,

I have hunted April 3 nights. She is a nice coondog. Her ear problem has not returned. I think we have got it healed.

She is a solid ringing chop tree dog..
