I know the feeling Saturday and Sunday we got enough rain to flood the bottoms and then Sunday night, Monday and today we got enough snow to make the hollar's slick as all get out. Seems like we can't catch a break in the weather. But Kent is gonna try to bring Jack up Thursday night for a couple drops

Rusty

Me and Rusty had another good night out.

He hunted out not quite 400yds by himself and checked back in with me then hunted out again. He checked 2 tree's hard and wimpered up one of them but he never barked and I didn't see anything in either tree. Then he finally got struck on a pretty good track and ran it hard 60yds and shut up on it.

All in all I am happy with him and the progress he has made. I am really looking forward to May when the kittens start climbin.

And by the way Kent Jack sounded good a minute ago also.

Good luck and Happy huntin.

Well me and Jack climbed back into the saddle last night. And it was a good night for it.

He went out and hunted well. He got out about 700 yards and came on back around the holler. When he did, he struck in on a track and got treed quick. Jack looked good on the timber like he hadn't missed a beat.

I'm glad that Jack got to relax and when asked to do so, he left at a run.

I was intending to hunt tonight, but work got in the way and so tomorrow with Jon in Kentucky is the next outing scheduled before a hunt down in Erin, TN on the 30th.

Here is the rundown from Thursday and Saturday.

Thursday.
I didn't even get to Jon's till a little after 9, so we cut loose and both Rusty and Jack hunted together for about a half mile and then decided to try it on their own on both drops. At the end of the night we had to call them back in, they were still goin' on to try and find something different and something to tree.

I was really impressed with the progress that Rusty had made. He looked good and hunted well, and even found his independent streak.

Saturday.
If you were in this area you know how Saturday's weather was. I straight up poured from 6pm till about 9:30pm. I was in a three dog cast and Jack did a good job not getting into trouble off of the word go. The other dogs started a track, but never finished. Jack wanted nothing to do with it and ended up getting split and working his own track clear out of hearing. He ended up out of hearing long enough the guide suggested calling time-out so we did.

We relocated and tied it again with 40minutes left in the hunt. Well, Jack and the 4year old dog cut through there and that is how the night ended. I ended up having to go and get Jack about 1/2mile across a holler and the other road. He was hunting something up to tree.

Oh well, the weather was rough. Me and Jack are going to stay in the timber and try it again this weekend in Elkton, KY.

Well, talked to the doc this morning and found out I do have some sleep issues....not connected to coon hunting. lol

It's been rough on me lately to get out and still get up for work, but that's the nature of having a job you get up at 0430-0500 for.

Me and Jack are hunting with a new hunting partner tonight and we are going to get it done this weekend too. We have a hunt at Elkton on Friday and Saturday. Wish us luck.

Me and Rusty had a good night also Larry.
First I carried him to the Elkton CHC for a little people time, and I have no complaints at all. He carried himself very well smelt of most all the guys there. No issues with being scared on the concrete floor. There was just one girl there that he really didn't want nothing to do with. And even had one feller wantin me to price him, which didn't go well for him.

After that I went to Dad's for a little woods time.
First drop him and Roxy went about 75yds and locked up on a possible slick tree. There was a nest 2 tree's over that it could have limbed over too but I feel she might have set down a little to quick. But on a good note rusty opend a little on track and made a good locate but just wasn't sure enough to tree. He wanted to go on but just couldn't find it.

Second drop Roxy struck 110yds off another feeder and her and Rusty rolled a little over 700yds and sat down again, along the creek. He done a fine job. Opened great on track and treed a good bit while we was goin to them. When we started across the bottom he did go back on track but came right back into a small den.

Third drop was Rusty and Blaze dad's 10month old walker pup. Rusty didn't much like Blaze wantin to puppy so he left a strollin and made one bark about 160yds in but never got it goin. After about 30 minutes he came on back in after huntin a good circle so we ended our night on a good note.

Glad to hear about joann Bill. I hope you continue to win with her.

Me and Rusty done a little traveling last night. We went to try out some public land about 60mile north of the house in hopes to find some easier coons to put him.
Well we didn't have any luck. We cut out in a pine forest that was might near straight up and down. We cut loose at 424ft elevation and Rusty started huntin up the side of the hill to about 575ft elevation and he only went about 175yds. Endless to say it was rough huntin. But he hunted out good after traveling and the hill didn't seem to bother him much at all. He did favor a draw that went up mile quit a bit. After about 2hrs of huntin I decided to call it a night. He never got a bark the whole 2hrs.

There's a couple more options up there to try out but that's gonna have to wait until my next day off.

I've been busy as ever at work, but me and Jack have been hitting the timber despite it. We are going to be hitting the hunts again starting at the end of April.

Until then, best of luck everyone! And keep those red dogs in the woods....especially the Jabo ones. =)

Hunt With Jon

The Christmas family came over for dinner and a hunt tonight. It was a good night all around.

Jon brought Rusty with him, and so we cut Rusty and Jack loose on my place. They did a bang up job of working a cold track and putting an end to it.

I was real happy with the way Rusty got into the action. He had to be sure for himself that the tree Jack picked out was the right one. He went and did a thorough investigation and settled down with Jack. He looked good and is getting better every time I see him.

See you guys in the timber.

Me and Rusty

Well last night me, dad, and richard cut 4 dogs loose. Duke, Rusty, Sam and Blaze a walker pup.

Duke and Rusty left in a hurry and rolled left handed to the creed. It wasn't long they about 325yds in and duke struck, followed by Rusty. Rusty opened real good on track and made a nice change over when he came up on the tree. I was pretty impressed with how he handled himself last night with a puppy that ain't clicked yet and a worthless 4yro.
