O I plan on taking it easy on her...

Sure been nice today, finally got below 95 for a high. We even got a few sprinkles.

Cryo Joe was Gone Last Night!

I took Joe and Kitty out last night. I didn't see either one of them for over a hour and a half. They messed around me a few minutes and they were gone. They blew in there about a half mile. Then started making half mile wide zig zags. Coons are real thin where we were at last night so they have to hunt far. They finally struck a little over a mile straight to them from the truck. They were in a nasty clear-cut thicket. When I got to them Kitty was getting pretty hot. I could here her panting from about 200 yds. away. So I called them in. Joe didn't want to come in though he was still trailing. I finally got him to come to me and he was still ready to go. When I got back to the house to put him up he tried to jump right back in the truck after I pulled him out.

Just got done

with taxidermy school and am alot poorer now. lol I did get to go to the cabin on Fridays and hunt the weekends. My nephew lost 2 dogs to blasto. One was a good red dog the other a good Plott. Kid, Dozer & Queen are doing just fine and Kid and Dozer are fast and Queen is doing better each time. Dozer has 0 body fat and we have TO GIVE HIM A BREAK. He burns alot of calories. He loves to hunt them bear. Kid will growl at the bear before he starts treeing them. That is funny to see. Ill have some pics when I get everything straightened out. As of now I have too many mounts and am trying to find places for them. Got 8 bear 2 cats and alot of fish to start on soon. Take care

Yeah that Blasto ain't nuthin nice.

Weight, now that's one thing thing that you have to watch some. Seems about half of what I have or a little more once you get to hunting them hard it's hard to keep weight on. They'll be pure meat and muscle. His great double grandma NtCh Ginger was like this. During hunting season the only thing that could keep her up while hunting hard was beaver meat. She'd look nice with that but with just food she wouldn't ever get down but was pretty thin. People would think she was wormy. She never had any worms the whole time I had her, I even had her checked several times. Glad school went well for ya.

heres Kid

on his first bear where he was out front the whole time. My brother said I think he might be on a deer. I told him to look on the GPS as I knew he wasnt on a deer. The others were just behind. He is doing good. A little spoiled, but a good dog. We are adding weight on Dozer. I wish he had some fat on him. He is solid rock muscle from head to toe.Take care.

Old Blood

Man you can sure see Kid's got some hounds in his PED pretty close that are from a while back. He's a nice houndy looking dude. He's got that nice wide nose too, like Dozer. I can see why he's able to run as fast as he can. Built for speed and got the head to smell em.

Took Annie

to the vet and she has mucus in her female parts and she is being taken care of. She might not be able to have pups. We will find out soon if she can or not. Sounds like we may have to spay her. She is a heck of a dog and that is a kick in the rear. Im glad we got Queen from you. Down to one female again for pups. I booked a female pup from Joe Maitland and they are due Oct. 1. Take care and hope the temp. goes down for all of you down there.

Well that stinks

This Fireball line doesn't have alot of females as a general rule. Just part of em but there are some nice ones. That's why when I seen how Queen was doing you were the first one I thought of. I sure hate Annie is having those issues though. She's not of the same breeding but I know how well she was doing for ya and I'm sure would have throw some nice pups as an outcross to the tight bred stuff you have from me. Let me know how it goes.

Hows the weather down your way is it still HOT ? it has cooled down here some but got a little warmer here today again hope it dont start this HOT crap again Im ready to hear a good race.

The III pup is doing good man does he have a MOUTH ! never heard a dog as loud as him hope to get him started here pretty soon.

We have the Sis female started a little not been fool with very much but shes ready & she is the same way one heck of a mouth hung on her,she is a litter mate to your gip. She is just a natural hope your is to.

We bred Glory to Bad Boy Billy these should be some nice pups with alot of ol blood in them give me a call when you can.

HEAT

That's why I'm not out. I was really planning on going but it was up past 110 again today here. III's brother has sure been nice so far. Treed first time to the woods at 4 1/2 months. Turned him loose again the other night finally. Joe went over a mile to get struck. I turned him loose and he was gone. Getting a new tracking collar, this week, before I turn him or Twisted Sister loose again, with the way they go. That's one thing that what I got has is a mouth. Joe has is pretty loud with a good crisp tone that carries as well. Guess I'll be hunting Holly (Bo x Daisy) and Kitty for now. Maybe Holly will decide to start going better. Then I'll be down to Kitty I guess. Sure hope this weather breaks, so I can get her tuned all the way up. Hopefully, then it will be on to the big dance this year for Kitty and Sherman .

Steve sounds like Twisted Sis will get in there also & thats great them pups will go hunting thats for sure ! & we hope to see you in Wooster, Ohio at the BIG DANCE best of luck to you. Todd is hunting the hair off Sherman getting him ready for the Zones sure hope to get out of them.

Hope the weather breaks

If this junk doesn't stop me and Kitty are going to be going almost cold turkey into the Zones. One things for sure now about these pups they'll go. I knew Twisted Sister and the rest would I just didn't think a pup that had just turned 8 months would go like that. Like I've said before though old Twister would sure put the go in them but you already knew that.

Kid did it again

Started out in the front of the pack and was in front to the tree and was treeing his heart out. Had to go knee deep in the swamp to the tree and fight the tag alders. It was just the wrong lighting to get good pictures. I had taken pics of Dozer but they didnt come out. I lead Dozer and Kid and when we got to the hardwoods Mike said cut Kid loose since he should follow us out. Yea right. He went and struck another bear and we cut loose again only to catch the dogs as they crossed the road later on. We had another bear going with our friends dogs is why we grabbed them. Saturday Kid made the big switch from being a young 1 year old good started dog to a trustworthy broke strike dog. He can flat out fly and straighten out the track in a hurry. He had some lite claw marks on his chest from getting swatted. You'll have to come see him hunt sometime. He is getting to be a awesome beardog. Dozer is doing good and loves to chase them bear and wont run anything but a bear now. He needs rested again as his bodyfat is too low again. Seems he burns it all up during the weekends. He leads good out of the woods, even in the swamps. He loves being up ther with us and all the attention he gets.

Speed

Think we ended up with the Famous Amos speed on the track combined with the finish power of the Fireball stuff. This seems to have worked well. Something else that is hard for some to understand is the drive these hounds have. That's the reason great race horses are what they are. Most all the great race horses had bigger hearts than usual. I have had EKG's ran on these hounds and they show that. It makes for increased blood flow and this is the reason they can go harder than alot of others. They also ate more than usual. There again alot of these guys can put away the food. The reason for alot of this is metabolism. Something that can go like that is going to burn more calories than the usual hound. You know what I'm talking about I know. They hunt far as needed but they also hunt hard. What I mean by that is not only are they covering alot of ground but while they are doing it they are checking everything out with speed. That the reason they are able to push a track so, without getting lost, and the reason that some are harder to keep the weight on.

First rain this month a quarter of an inch.

At this point this is the driest and hottest anyone I know, that is alive, has seen around here. Alot of the folks I know are in their 70's and 80's, some in thier 90's. My parents who live in the desert out west have gotten way more rain than we have. I'm thinking of trying out the river bottoms to see if the sap that is falling in the trees from the drought is leaving any moisture down there. Around my home there no dew or anything really just dry scorced earth.

Daisy put on another Show last night Dave. Treed all 4 times way before Kitty.

She's only been out 4 or 5 times since last year when I bred her to Twister. But last night just seemed like it would be a good night for her so I took her. As you know for fear of something happening to her I don't hunt her. However, she has that natural ability still. It's still hotttt in the 80's when I turned loose last night at about 10:30, I took Daisy and Kitty. We got another sprinkle yesterday. Turned them loose Daisy found the coon first, Kitty struck first. Daisy starting pouring it on and slammed the tree first. Trouble was it was in a big log pile from a clear-cut and 12-20 feet high 60 wide and 75 yards long. Pulled them off that one Daisy came flying through the woods near me about a half from there, slammed on the brakes, literally sent leaves flying, went zig zag back and forth stood up on her back legs did a 360, while standing and started hammering. I have only ever treed this coon once before. Normally the hounds loose him becuase of the tricks he pulls. The only other time I've tree him was in this tree during the winter, it's so viney and insanely tall, I couldn't find it then either. Turned loose from there went about another half Kitty struck in again Daisy to follow they were pouring it to him Daisy finally quit tracking through her head up and winded him down about the time I got there. She caught the coon as he was going through a net wire fence but he got loose. She hopped the fence caught him again at the fence he got loose again Kitty was on him then they ran him down a tree line and Daisy tree first again. This time he was in a hole they were pushing him so. Pulled them off of that and was heading back to the truck when Kitty struck were I had just called in Daisy from. (Was wishing I'd left Daisy alone) I kept Daisy with me for about 15 mins. then finally told her to get in there to. She went straight out there struck right in and bammm stole Kitty's tree from her again this time they had him in a bushy clump of old oaks that had 6 trees coming out of it. I got Vid of the last one with Daisy trying to climb the tree while treeing I'll put on here later.

Yep sure am.

We got a bunch in some places at least an inch or so. My place didn't get a ton but got another shower. I'm sure glad for anything we get. I would have went again last night but had several things to do on the farm after work. Then one of my horses decided to start acting up so I ended up doing horse training instead of dog training. Plan to go tonight though after our Gideons meeting. It's still hot but at least there is some moisture now for cold tracks.

Here's a Vid of Daisy.

This was Daisy's first trip to the woods on a wild coon in almost a year. Temps were in the 80's this was on the 4th coon of the night, right after catching and fighting with one on the track before, about 2 miles straight thru the woods from where I turned loose. They had been treeing for about 15 mins. It's from my phone and I thought I was recording them treeing better right before this. However, when I went to look at the video it didn't record. So this is what I ended up with, o well, that's technology. I need to get a good camera and find my squaller so I could make better use of my time on these videos I guess.

Daisy's feet are full of thorns. I couldn't tell a thing by the way she was cruizin.

Apparently, she got all in some poisionus Bois De Arc needles. She's got 3 punctures in one foot and 2 in the other with her feet all swelled up, just from the other night. Infection coming out of both of them. She seems to have the worst luck with her feet. I was sure excited after the way she looked last night. Looks like it wil be a few more now before she goes again.

Steve, get a pan of real warm salt water & soak her feet one at a time this should really help put plenty of salts in the water.

Hey I'll do it.

I just hope there isn't one broke off in there. I had one that had two pieces that did break off in his foot. In just two days it swelled to about 3 times it's normal size. Some more of those good things we have down here to go with the snakes and gators.

I sure hate to hunt her for fear of something happening to her and me not being able to do my planned frozen semen breedings but after the way she looked the other night. I may just have to hunt her anyway. Daisy just goes so far and hard that it gets scary at times trying to keep tabs on her, while she's hunting. Good thing is she handles super nice and will come at a dead run from a ways off. I mean Kitty isn't a push over by no means but she made her look almost silly. I mean Daisy's been in the woods about 30 times now by no means what I would call a coondog but I just can imagine what she would be like if I did hunt her much at all. Really, if I hunted her for a month I think I could win with her already. Kitty is the coondog of the two though for sure. She's a solid well rounded hound that gets it done everytime, enough so that if she's not winning she'll definately be right in there. However, Daisy with her winding ability is one of those hounds that could flat kill ya in many coons and will cover enough ground she can do it in thin coons still.

Treeing quick.

Well we wasn't out to long the other night. Right as we got near the woods a whole pack of coyotes let loose close and right in the spot I wanted to turn loose. I thought about moving on but then I was like well I'll go ahead and just she what she does. Kitty blew right in there, where the coyotes were, with Holly (Dasiy x Bo cross) right behind. They smelt all around down in the woods and then Kitty just fell treed, took about 2 mins. This time she treed right on the edge of a clear-cut so I could finally see the tree. This was the first time in about 10 trees that I could see at least half the tree. So once I found it he came out. Holly whined some but didn't tree, she's not been out in months, so that's no big deal. We're only allowed one coon during the summer so we packed up and went back to the house.

Kitty and Joe

Took them out last night, at about 11, it was warm to say the least. I got too hot I believe or I picked up something from my wife. I ended up not getting out of bed until 2 pm after getting in about 2 am. Joe didn't hunt as well as the last time but it was alot warmer last night. He got it figured out about half way though. He was treeing some but still not like his first time to the woods. This was only like his 5th time to the woods though at 8 months old, it's super hot and dry. So I figure when we fianlly get some rain and things cool off he come on then. Made 3 trees in about 3 hours, all in wooly stuff, had one tree I could see about half of but I still didn't have my squaller.
