I've got a bad case of cabin fever. With the heat wave that brough the temps up near 20 degrees last night, I decided I needed to dust the dogs off. Dot and Tramp treed a coon, a bulldozer pile, and then on the last dump I caught Tramp on the road. As I caught him, I heard coon fighting on the other side of the road. I decided to call it a night as I needed to round Dot up at that time.

Here's Tramp on the bulldozer pile. This tree had sturdy limbs that grew into this massive pile.

Funny you mention that, I thought the same thing. Cut him last night with Zeb Myers and his Bodie female. It was below zero and 1230am. They went deep, got on a track and put it in a hole. We went home after that.

Joys of a smart phone, I cleaned it as soon as I got the notification. Made a couple dumps and went back to Russ' to talk about treein coon. Seemed liked the smarter idea. Dogs covered some ground and terrain and never made a peep and came back. Not typical, so took the hint.

Took Tramp out solo tonight. Did a nice job heating up an old track and took it a long ways to a den. We made another dump, but he and I came to the mutual agreement that some snow needs to disappear so we went home.

I was looking thru this thread but couldn't find it. Didn't Jet draw out with Mr. Clean a couple years ago at Autumn Oaks, and give him a run for his money?

We drew out together 2 years ago. Had a real good hunt. Bryan Whitted is a real good guy to hunt with. We were close going into last drop. I needed a first strike, but did not happen. We ended up split treed both with coon, but I needed that strike. I liked what I saw from Clean. Jet and Clean were split from eachother three times that night. It was the drought year and hunting was tough. We managed to look at 3 coons, but not enough for Grand 16. Bryan and I shook hands after the hunt, I told him I thought Clean was a nice hound and he told me I had a nice bluedog. The way they all should go.

hey jake got a report from a guy that has a pup out of my female and jet and 3 and a half months old first time in the woods hunting and didn't stand around his feet. went 150 yards and treed with the older dogs and had the meat.

I didnt figure those pups would take long to get going by the way they are bred. I think you will be hearing many more good reports on those.

Tramp 2-16-14

I've been staying home at night for the last month and I couldn't take it anymore. I took Tramp and Rain out tonight. That snow is DEEP!!! I road hunted them on the first "dump" and they took one to a hole about 80 yds off the road, on a south facing hill side. After getting back down to the road, I decided to free cast them along a river. They went in about 200 yards and struck up a track. They snaked that track down along the river, and then crossed the road we were on, went quite a ways and pulled the trigger. Found out the hard way that if you get off of the deer paths right now, you might find yourself nipple deep in the snow. I thought I was gonna have a heart attack getting to them, but then I really thought I was going to when i saw they actually had a coon at the very top of a large, leafy Red Oak. Tramp continues to amaze me at 19 mos old and I'm really looking forward to getting him out once this snow melts some.

Here's a pic of Tramp and Rain. Rain is via Gauge x Rain. This was my first time hunting her as a young boy was helping me with her this last Fall and treed a couple coon with her over a couple of nights. If she fits the bill, I may cross Tramp on her. It looks like she just needs hunted.

Tramp (Jet x Mindy 3) was in his first competition hunt last night. I went to Arthur's TW Sectional with my NiteCh Dot female. They were short of guides for open casts, so I handed off Dot's lead to my friend that was with me, and I signed Tramp up. He hunted with 3 much older dogs, but did very well I thought. We were hunting in 30 degrees with the wind blowing steadily and it was also snowing periodically. I made a handler error and struck and treed him deep down the valley with the other dogs, and minused myself right away when he opened right handed from them and took a track deep and finished on a den. On that particular tree, it took us 20 minutes to get to him. Not a huge fan of the "deep and alone" phrase, but in these type of conditions it's inevitable. Tramp had 1st tree all night, and his locate and changeover is undeniable making him easy to call. We scored on 1 coon, and he had 4th strike and 1st tree on that. Had I listened a little more carefully before opening my mouth, Tramp would've had himself a CW in his first ever hunt. He was ready, I wasn't.... Give me a break, I haven't been to a hunt since last September....
