Ramblin' Lou

Hi,

Took Ramblin' Lou to her first HTX. She passed with no faults. Sure was a nice birthday present.

Stood on the tree like always and treed with that ringing chop. Ran the track with that good bawl mouth.

PS A couple of months ago, I came home about 230 am in the morning. Lou was gone. Looked for her everywhere. Never found her. In September, I took a month off working around the farm. When I returned to supervising the ER, an ERP came up to me and showed this video of a walker female treeing every breath . He asked me if I might know who she belonged to. I said yes, it's Lou.

I went to his farm on the Salt River to pick her up. She had a huge swelling under her throat on the right side and was emaciated. She had an encounter with a Rattler at some point. The venom apparently left her deaf.

Straight thru the country he lives about 9 miles. Down Lick Creek, which runs into the Salt River, it is about 25 miles. It is good to have the little dog back home.

That Finley River nose will make good hounds look silly.

Got one more nite to work (wed) and then Im ready to hunt.

Stayed up for opening night. Fell asleep in my chair waiting. Woke up about 4 am.

That's old age for you!!!!!!!!!!!

You should hear the mouth on your pup! I bet he roars on the tree like Major.

Sheba

Hi,

They hunted Sheba with a good dog one night last week. He had made Nt Ch in 3 straight hunts.

Art told me Sheba located ahead of that dog and when they got there, Sheba had the coon.

Sheba has never been in the woods more than 10 nights.

That's Finley River Dan breeding at it's best. No training, just take them hunting. Natural coondogs.

Hi,

Had fun hunting with you and trash talking with Charlie. I knocked very hard on that door! Josh stopped by and made two drops with us. Enjoyed hunting with him. Abby trees hard.

First night in the woods for the pup. She opened a few times on track, treed a little and then jumped right on those coons. She fought them like she had been doing it all her life.

Sid showed those quality Finley River traits in rough terrain with cutover, on a frosty, moonlight night.

Tanna

Hi,

Took Tanna, Iron Man's littermate,hunting the other night about midnight. Moon was bright as daylight. Frost so thick, it looked like snow.

Turned her up a branch between 1000 acre cornfields. She went in about 250 yards and struck. The race was on as hard as she could run. Ended across the road, half a mile in from the road, at a huge den tree with the coon looking out. She runs with her head up and she can fly. She has a loud roar on track and a loud chop on tree.

I am going to love hunting her and her brother, Iron Man,
together. They are easy to lead, easy to handle and hate coons.

Tanna and bud

Hi,

Jeff and I drew together for the big coon contest. Tanna and Bud treed two nice coons. Independent, run their own coon, get deep and get treed coonhounds.

Hammer/ Quail Creek Jimmy linebred bluetick and a daughter of Zig/granddaughter of Rambler.

We weighed in at 22.5 lbs. and won the contest. $50 prize. We donated it back to the club.

Emma

Hi,

I thought it was time to get Emma out. I took her about 3 am Sun morning. Went to a place that I have always treed coons. Turned her loose and she ran that coon with her normal wreckless abandon. Driving it across the creek and treed with that never ending screaming squall.

I could not get across the creek. I blew the squaller, shot the rifle. Threw big pieces of wood in the creek. Nothing worked. She treed harder. I finally gave up and waded the creek. Man that water was cold. Big coon. Left him set. I didn't want to try and drag Emma across the creek or through the woods. I was frozen and wore out. Walked all the way down to the bridge a mile or so. And walked all the way back to the truck. Ended up with pneumonia again. Oh well, Levaquin is what I live on nowadays.

I was pleased she did a good job, but I was relieved when I got the happy hunter home and in her nice warm box.

Emma

Hi,

Had a nice hunt Friday night with Mike Umphrey and his pup Spook. Emma did a replay of Sunday only closer to the bridge in a different 3,000 acre bottom. She had him. Ran another one in the creek bank. Went deep with a track and treed it in a coon motel. Did not have a camera to take a pic. Man, was it a huge den. Started to walk back to the truck. Stopping several times to cough and get my wind back. Mike drove the truck around to the road, so I didn't have to walk back to the truck, but it was a good 3/4 of a mile to the truck from up and out of the bottom.

The Hunt

Hi,

I had a nice hunt with Cole, Connor Johnson and Landon. Landon, I hope you excuse me, I can't think of your last name.

We turned loose about midnight and in a few minutes we had dogs treed on both sides of the creek. We had dogs treed everywhere in that bottom all night. Blue dogs and a Walker on one side and Emma on the otherside.

Treed in the creek bank twice. Once on each side of the creek. Once in a beaver dam. Emma treed in a big water oak that spanned the creek and leaned into a sycamore. Smart coon. He has played that trick more than once. They were still on the other side of the creek, when Emma drove a track in deep, on my side of the creek and treed. I started to her and my light went out. There I am in cutover, briars, and multifloral rose. I inched my way towards the outside of the timber, not making much progress. Finally, I saw lights coming. I yelled, and they found me, lol. The cool part was when they flooded my side of the creek with enough light to allow me to walk out of the woods, as if my light was still on, lol. I will endorse the Gravedigger and Sunfire lights. A half mile shining is no problem for either light. I will not mention the name of my light, lol. I walked the mile to the truck and got my handy 2 inch l.e.d. flashlight and walked to Emma. Cole had made the trip around the bridge and walked with me. We walked back in a mile or so to Emma, who was still blowing the top out, after being treed for over an hour. The tree was a giant cottonwood with vines everywhere and a big hole in it. Leashed her, petted her head and walked back to the truck. In the meantime, Demon had treed deep on the other side of the creek. He has a tremendous mouth. We could hear him at the truck. Connor and Landon retrieved him, walked back to their truck and met us at the bridge. We had a good time.

Drove home, put Emma in her nice warm box. Traversed to the house and fixed a big sandwich with a Pepsi. Consumed it and kicked back in the recliner. Mr Sandman came to visit me and peaceful slumber ensued... And to all a good night, lol.

Sounds like you guys had a awesome hunt. Other than a few mishaps. (A light burning out can really leave you in a pickle) thank goodness for the other guys lights.
