Larry

Larry I don't know if I can handle her. She's so people shy that she will raise up her head when somebody comes in the house, and then goes right back to sleep. LOL...

Thank you so much for this opportunity again. I greatly do appreciate it. I owe you alot friend and I am here if I can ever do anything for you.

Thanks again.

Joann

Boy let me tell you what. We had a hell of a good hunt tonight.

First drop Joann, Blaze, and grandaddy's Dixie female.
Bubba Joann has no reverse at all. Her and Dixie hit the creek and rolled .8 mile. Well Dixie found a skunk and came on back in. I had to call Joann in from about 400yds. I never shocked her all night, only toned.

Second Drop. Roxy Joann Blaze.

They all rolled a 200yd circle and never opened a bit. Then they rolled left handed and Joann pulled 1st strike on the old dog. They ran it hard and locked down 233yds on a oak beside a cedar with the meat in the fork. Well Joann didn't much like the tree and broke off on her own track and opened real good. She ran it a touch over 500yds by herself with no help. She ran it good and then rolled out a big locate in the ground. I called her back in and put her on the tree with roxy, she treed decent but just wasn't really feelin it.
I squalled the coon down and of course it came down the back side and ran. I got all 3 dogs cut loose and wow what a race. They ran it hard and pushed it in the ground about 70yds out.
We had a real good hunt and she is really showin alot of potential.
Larry I cant thank you enough for this opportunity. I really needed this after all that has happened
Thank you.

Pictures to follow tomorrow I gotta be up in a few hours

Good night all and happy huntin.

Our talk today, and my hunt tonight.

Kent, thanks for the call today. i was tickeld about the news of Jo-ann. at the show, another CH. win, and what she did in the woods after. Jon if you read this, thanks man. well we cut Jenny and highway loose at the property and they headed for the bridge. jenny came back up the ceek a couple hundred yards and treed two in the same tree. i let one rain down on her. highway was at the other end of the track checking trees when we picked him up near the road. 2nd drop up on big rock and they struck and took him to the creek. jenny and highway parked it under a snag and i did not see the coon. it was still an enjoyable night with brother dave, and a couple of young dogs. My Jenny is doing about as well as i could have hoped for. at not yet 26mo old. i've posted alot of pics of her on your thread kent and these two will most likely be it for awhile. thanks for letting me use your thead to brag on her some. take care friend and come see us before to long. LWS.

Joann

Its been some hard huntin up this way. We got that ol flu come in here about 3 days ago packin a punch, and then the night before last mother nature graced our presents with a nice thick sheet of ice, so with that bein said Joann was out last night for the 1st time since last friday night.
I cut out behind the house for a quick hunt, mainly because I still ain't feelin good, and didn't really expect her to do much anyways, but I have been known to be wrong before...
She went about 30yds off the leash and came back to me. A lil push back out and I didn't see her again till close to a hour. At one point according to the Garmin she struck a lil over 300yds in, opened about 3 times and located in the ground. Came back after that and I tapped her on the side and said go hunt him up.
This little female is a firecracker Larry. After about 2hrs by herself last night the Garmin has her at 3.76 mile total dist. traveled and 3.04mph avg. You said she didn't have a reverse and u are very correct about that. She hit the creek and rolled left, then turned and rolled all the way back around to the right. After both ways on the creek she broke off it and headed to another patch of woods, and I finally called her back in. You could not have asked for a young dog to hunt any better. Especially when there is still ice on the ground and some tree's still have a thick layer on them.

Joann

We have had 2 good nights of huntin this weekend. First was Friday night Joann and my old male dog, and last night with her and my Roxy female.

Friday
Like always she was quick to get gone and quick to strike. They left in a hurry and hit the creek at the bottom of a deep cut over holler. Joann struck wide open at 400yds and started grubbin, while the old dog left still mouth and fell treed a little over 800yds in. But Joann ran the track all the way to the tree on her own and treed pretty descent on it. It was a big bore laid up high on a limb, that still had ice froze on it. I got her tied back on it hit the squawler a couple times and that really made her tree hard. And ol ringtail put up a hell of a fight when it hit the ground also.

Saturday
I cut out on a feeder and just let them go huntin. They left quick and in a hurry and never looked back. They rolled down to the creek and ran it until they finally got struck on a bad track and grubbed it up a deep leg in a holler and finally fell treed on one of the biggest oaks I've seen in awhile, in between a bluff on each side and a deep creek with some big rocks in the bottom. Me and Dad looked and squawled for a good 30 minutes but just couldn't find anything, but Joann treed real good on it. Even stood up on it a few times.

All in all it was 2 good hunts and Joann had a good showing.

We had a great hunt last night. Made 3 drops with Roxy Joann and blaze, plus grandaddy brought his 2 females. We had a lot of dogs in the woods but ol Joann didn't mind. I cut.her loose first then Roxy behind her. Joann had no problem finding a creek to roll on. On the last.drop her and Roxy rolled .75 mile up the lake and finally fell treed. We drove around to them and joann was.really treeing good. Coon went up a leaning tree over the lake and probably jumped out and crossed the lake. But Joann was committed to that tree and was standing on it and chopping hard. I was really pleased with how she hunted and treed last night. I got some great pictures to post tonight. When I get off work.

If I had to guess I would say that Roxy was gnawing. She is lookin better each night. Hopefully I can get her under some meat tonight then off to Kent's tomorrow evening. Looking forward to it.

The sad news is that grandaddy's house burn't down Sunday morning. They are both safe and uninjured though.

a LONG catch up

Ok ladies and gents...grab your reading glasses or hit the zoom a few times because this will be a LONG one.

Let's start where I left off, mid November.
I was rough times at the Land Between the Lakes where I was doing a lot of hunting. Jack did a good job of getting in there and getting treed. Problem was it was always a den tree. So I cut out at the house thinking it would be better....key word....thought. It was no better there. So I called several guys I knew to see how it was going for them and they had the same story. And so I ended the month of November with a coon or two and that was it.

On to the horrible month of December.
I only did two weeks of hunting in the month of December. However, it was a horrid month.

Not for anything that Jack did, rather what happened to Jack.

Jack got tied up with coyotes and in a bad way. Its a long story, but it ended with me cutting him off on a road and having to fire at the coyotes over top of Jack on the move. One of the coyotes kept coming and I dropped my rifle and drew my pistol as I thought I was going to have a CQB engagement with the dang thing. But he stopped just shy of pistol range....

This encounter had a major impact on Jack for some time. There was a time where he wouldn't go out much more than 200yds, his confidence was crushed.

This directly effected my Winter Classic hunt. (see next post)

Winter Classic till now

The Winter Classic was a heck of a good time and Batesville, MS did a PHENOMENAL job at hosting it.

Friday night, all dogs on my cast acted slam full of stupid. I had to go get Jack 1.2miles away treed in a mess. The rest of the night we just followed dogs and it ended up dead.

Saturday night, A much better night of hunting. Jack was competitive, and could have won the cast had he held on to what he had as the other dogs took minus off the bat for moving. But he didn't and came to the other dogs at the second tree. That is how the hunt ended and it too, was a dead cast.

I just came back from my favorite hunt of the year and he did a stand up job. He looked more like the Jack that everyone has come to know, love, and respect than I have seen since he was tied up with the coyotes.

Thursday he had a piece of all of the action, but nothing on his lonesome.

Friday he had his own coon over 700yds from the cast spot. He ran it right next to a road and scared me to death doing it. lol As for the second drop, he looked good, but nothing extraordinary.

Saturday is when it really came back for him. He struck out and took to the timber despite the other dogs coming back. He struck the track and pushed it till he got treed in a den, and the other dogs back him on it. Second cast he got out of pocket and we collected him up.

Third cast he got right to work and the other dogs had to be called over to the truck and sent back in the timber. Jack struck in and jammed a coon up. The six year old dog strolled in to him and backed him (a very fine 6yr old that was one heck of a tree dog owned by Allen Moore). We never had to get to the tree to shine because the coon was way out on a limb in the open. Jack treed his guts out and looked dang good.

So that should catch everyone up and I'll be posting as soon as I get back in the timber.

Keep 'em red, and keep 'em treed.
