Howdy gang,
I see some have made it back from the 4th. I hope everyone had a great time.My weekend was good got to see some old friends and even get a little hunting in. I have been reading up on here and sending prayer up to everyone. Hate to see friends hurting and things people have to deal with.
I had a huge prayer answered last night with a situation I created. I know better than to try to cut corners and take short cuts but sometimes we still try to. I actualy just made this into its own post hoping I can make one person think before they try to cut corners. Those that have seen me out will see me with Jasper and know how much I think of this little pup (ok about 60 or 70lbs so not so little anymore)

I have to tell a personal story on myself to hopefully help someone one day.
I hunt out of a chevy avalanche. I normally have my bed covers off. This weekend I had to use them so last night I decided to just take the last one off and tie the dogs to the tie downs in my truck. I wrapped leads to tighten and thought I had them tight enough. Dogs done fine riding around. Got to the woods and decided to try to get my gyp out to get her to hunt by herself. As I was walking around I kept an eye on my pup in the truck (14 months) and would either tone him or lightly buzz him if he tried to put his feet on the tailgate. As I walked on around he done real good so I kind of slipped off further with her. As I am standing there I hear some banging up around the truck and just think that he is standing up on the tail gate. I tone him and then I hear alot more movement. So I make my way up to the truck. As I get close I shine my light towards the back of the truck and can see the lead over the tail gate.I took off as hard as I could. There was the pup that I have raised hanging by his own collar. I grabbed him up and unsnapped the lead. No movement, I sat him on the ground and he collapsed. Had I really just killed one of my best friends?
I slowly started massaging his chest and squeezing trying to get some air going. Finally he gasp for air I sat with his head on my lap for about 10 minutes while he slowly increased his breathe. After about 15 minutes he was up and moving around then poof he took off into the woods. They ran a track across river and ending having to call them back due to the area they were heading.
When it comes to us and our hounds safety double think things and take a little time to make sure it is right.

Don't beat yourself up for it. I myself have been in kinda the same situation before. Only mine turned out for the bad. Be thankful the dog is still alive-- and move on. Learn from it. You will be the better man for it. Happy hunting,my friend. Rob Gregory

Mike I had a nice young male dog one time that I tied to a tailgate some how he managed to hang himself while I was entering him in the night hunt my out come wasn't as good as yours things happen some good some bad I have some I have turned loose em and never saw them again had a few that got ran over even had a couple that were shot and several that I wished something would have happened to them point being we take as good of care of them as we can but things can still happen

I'm back today.. may be another busy week ahead finishing poor Bobs VACATION... but he is doing very well!

First off PRAYERS for all and Happy Anniverseries to the ones who have had them etc....

Mike, Accidents happen and that was one. Lesson learned by you and good for you teaching others! GLAD your dawg is fine!

ALl good here. Bob healing well. He has to stay near the bathroom more than before but that will get better and better with time. He is going nuts watching me do all his stuff he planned for vacation. I spent five days this week, M-F weeding the flower beds. All the tall weeds were as tall or taller than me and we would prefer to see the FLOWERS! lol ALL I can see now is the short weeds that need to come out. I can barely move! My ankle is great but the other foot feels fractured across the ball...lol..and my hands... OUCH! But the flowers sure are worth it! Bob haled with lil weeds sitting and I made him take lots of breaks. We have enjoyed our longer vacation time and I'll hate for him to go back to work on the 20th! We have had lots of critters around and been able to hear the coonhound and other hounds across the st. singing! We LOVE IT! We have been reading, eatting way too much etc. Good times. I am hopeful he will continue to get well quick!!!!
Our veggie garden is pathetci with weeds and it's killing off our snap peas...grrr...but I can't do the low down weeding. Our basil is the pits. THe tomatoes slow... The zuccini suddenly thriving and Oh MY wew are SO SICK of SUMMER SQUASH! lol.. Bob did 2 varieties and both are insane. We have steamed chopped and frozen too many already and they will not stop! HELP! Please come gettem!


I think I'll head off to read many days worth of endless stories and if I'm not still doing that tomorrow...... lol... I may head back here to see wassup and what you all did over the weekend etc.......

EVERYONE, A VERY GOOD FRIEND OF MY FAMILY PASSED AWAY ON SUNDAY. HE WAS MY FATHERS BEST FRIEND AND HUNTING BUDDY. I HAVE KNOWN HIM SINCE I WAS VERY LITTLE. HE WAS A COON HUNTER, DEER HUNTER, TURKEY HUNTER AND WATERFOWL HUNTER. HE ENJOYED CRABBING AND ROCK FISHING. A GOOD DAD TO HIS KIDS. HE FOUGHT A LONG HARD BATTLE WITH MESOTHELIOMA ( CANCER ). Heather - Glad Bob is healing up. Make sure you don't over do it.

Corky - Sounds like your garden is doing great. Good for you. Mine is just starting to come on now. I have picked a couple tomatoes, a few cukes, a few peppers and I had my first fried zucchini tonight. I just love that stuff.
