Preacher

Hi,

Preacher won Gr Ch male at the Kansas State Championship last weekend. Popacap and Billy Graham were in attendance as well as some other fine hounds. Congratulations to all the winners both days.

Preacher has not been able to compete in the shows this year, as his handler, Kandi Johnson has been side lined much of the time taking care of her husband. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Hi,

Most tracks, Jeff and I walked to split trees. Track after track after track. We had a blast. Winter went by too fast.

Finley River dogs with some Lipper here and there. Real coondogs treeing real live coons.

We hunted places where hunters had said they couldn't tree coons there or the coon population had just died off.

hey robert, your right we treed coons in some rough spots. i can only remember 1 empty tree out of many off of some really rough tracks, and some hard runners. when the leaves are off you can tell what kind of coondog you got....

Finley River Spot (Finley River Zig x Ramblin Jane)

Well let me tell ya Fellas. Spot surprises me on a regular basis. You want to talk about a fast track dog. Wowwee..The other night i was hunting spot for the first time with my buddy who has a pretty nice dog, and who i thought had a pretty good snooter.(and i still think he does. BUT...) We cut them two dogs loose my buddies dog struck just a split second before OL'Spot. Spot opened three times and shut up. My Buddy's dog was still working what i thought sounded like a old feeder track. About a minute later spot opened again about 600 yrds in there and then again about 800yrds and then slammed treed. But what was crazy was my buddies dog had only moved the track about 100-150yrds so far..hhmmm surely shes not that much faster than this dog that i have seen go atleast 10 or more times and hes always done a good job and usually pretty quick about it. AT LEAST I THOUGHT!!! The second drop went the same way. My buddy's dog struck first by a half a second. Then OL' Spot smoked that track like she was tide to it about 6-700 yrds and slammed treed again... And my buddy's dog was working a old feeder track again that ended up at the same tree spot was treed on..HHmmm WOW..i was a little dumb founded and so was my buddy to say the least. Track speed and nose is definately something these dogs ain't lacking in.!!! We are going out again tonight. My Buddy wants a rematch..LOL.

Gentlemen, I hunted these dogs for years and saw many times when they would tree coons and the other dogs in the cast wouldn't make a bark. I hunted the Spook dog for Steve Bailey one winter in south Georgia and believe me there were some high priced dogs on these hunts. Ole Spook cause one man to return a 12 thousand dollar dog back to his owner. HAHA, I think Spook treed three that night in one hour and the BIG MONEY dog didn't have a clue. I owned Spooks sister and she would wear him out on most hunts. COONDOGS boys, the kind when they treed you seen coons. These dogs were out of Lonnie, so I know he reproduced the right kind and they weren't the only ones out of that cross that would tree you a coon. So, nothing you tell me about these Finley River dogs surprises me.

Nope everything you told me was correct. She's the real deal. Got it all. Super nose, Big mouth, Track speed right up there with the best ive had. And only going to get better. She's only two. She can absolutely fly on a track. Still waiting on her to come in season. Going to breed her to my semen out of Grntch Hardwood Winer. (Durbins Rambler x Rolling Hills Jane). They should have ungodly mouths and track speed second to none. Noses out of this world and yard dog smarts. I'm pretty pumped over this Uncle Niece cross.

With Zig going back to ole Lonnie at least 5 times , I bet he was a coondog. The kind that when you walk to a tree and not see a coon it's surprising.
Lonnie didn't have as many female visit him as should have. Does anyone know if Lonnie collected him?

I hunted several from this cross, COONDOGS. I believe it was made three or four times, they would start early, split tree before a year old and hold with the meat. The female I raised (Fancy) came into this world broke. That was her problem, something didn't go just right, she was done for awhile but could tree any kind of track, in any weather. Jam one close or a mile deep in water chest deep, it was all the same. I recall one night, she was about 10 months old and my hunting buddies ole Night Champion English dog (6 years old) was in one armadillo hole after another, well here she comes to the truck, haha something wasn't right and she would tell on you. I can also remember her not hunting in a cast because something wasn't right, it could be embarrassing. She died a GCh. with a 1st place win and only needing a cast win to make Night Champion.

Zig

Hi,

Zig was linebred PKC Ch Dual Gr Ch Finley River Zoom bred. He was raised right here in Missouri at my friend's house. I paid the stud fee. Zoom's momma was one of the best dogs I have ever raised. Her name was Gr. Ch. Mears' Finley River Trap. I raised her from a pup and sold her to Tom Wilbers. Tom owned her to the day she died. She went into the SWTWA Hall of Fame in 1995.

Trap made lots of dogs look silly, including Gr. Ch. Mears' Finley River Jefferie. She could put on a clinic. She could tree any kind of coon and do it easy, just like her mother, Gr. Ch. Mears' Finley River Jane. Trap's daddy, Gr. Ch. Karshner's Dancer, was as classy a tree dog as any that ever lived, with a dying bawl that lasted forever and a hard ringing chop. Dancer had a medium nose.

The best cross on Trap was never made. I paid the stud fee to have her bred to Dual Gr. Ch. Finley River Jeff. Lonnie took it upon himself to breed her to Jefferie instead. Trap even produced coon dogs out of that litter, even though Jefferie was the sire. What would have been, if that cross between Trap and Jeff was made?

Trap is the secret behind my dogs. She came from 2 pups I bought. Dancer and Jane were raised , trained , and campaigned by me until the day they died. The cross was only made once. Jane died the next winter. Broke my heart and I quit for awhile.

Then I paid the stud fee for Trap to be bred to Lipper. I kept Rattler. Tom kept his full brother Slick. From this cross came the Rambler dogs. Rambler was UKC #2 Current Reproducer until he went sterile. John Monroe kept Zoom and advertised him until he died. The rest is history. I have raised Trap dogs for 40 years and will continue as long as God allows me to.

Finley River Spot.

Mr. Starke,
I'm at a loss for words, it just amazes me the progress spot has been making treeing these coon, and how fast and Wild this female is. Super fast track dog, big screaming Locate, and let me tell ya a Treeee Dog. This female is on her way to becoming something Great!!!! She really has had very limited hunting, and I can't take credit for anything she's doing..She's a natural just took her to the woods and she taught herself...will keep you posted..Ps. She's ready to go to town.

Spot, Stormy, Tanna, and Iron Man

Hi,

I told you when Spot was just a little pup that she would be the real deal.

I have raised too many puppies. I know exactly what to look for. I wanted Tom Wilbers to get this female, but he brought her back and said he didn't like her mouth. Tom has forgotten this strain of Finley River is noted for females that have so so mouths that develop into monster mouths. Just like Finley River Jane, Trap's mother.

Ramblin Jane, whom I never talk about, is the mother of this litter. She is a female, who can knock a whole in the dark and tree a coon as easy and as fast as any man's dog. She can catch them, she can force them to climb, or she can drop out of a blistering hot race and a have a coon treed behind the other dogs. She TREES the first coon up. Time after time after time. I simply love this dog. She stays on my porch. She looks exactly like her littermate brother, Gr. Nt. Ch. Rolling Hills Whiner. Money cant buy my Rambler females.

I told you that I am not a tremendous trainer. I do know how to breed Finley River dogs. Breed them right and you dont have to be a trainer. Just let them grow up and turn them loose. You simply cant beat good genetics. Dont believe one word I say, just call Jeff Wyatt.
