Thanks for the compliments. Lumber has turned out into a fine looking compact dog. He and I will make a few trips to the timber and see where we are in the process. I won't rush him but he is doing good things

My pleasure Elmo Overton! As for the show young Lumber is a natural, he will scoot right thru the shows captain! As for the hunting he has all the tools and the starting knowledge base under his paws already. Now he just needs daddy Elmo to work him into the hunting schedule every now and then. I decided I would make a walk on the river. I cut the dogs loose and both struck in at 600 yards and took the track to the river. I have no idea what happened to the track. Lumber came in and Maggie went another 900 yards and tapped a tree she didn't like. It was a nice night for a walk anyway. Maggie couldn't get anything going and Lumber stayed close going in and out checking trees and winding.
I finally called it a night and called Maggie in. As I was walking back to the truck Lumber went in about 250 yards and struck. I didn't turn Maggie to him I wanted to see what he would do. After a few barks he came in so I don't know what he was doing.
I think I will have some fun with this pup. Head full of sense and a good mouth. Very tree minded so time will tell.

I went with Chris Baker and Tom Wilbern. They hunted the Slick dog I had Sounder and Lumber.
First drop Sounder and Slick struck they went in about 400 yards and Slick treed first then Sounder finally back him. Lumber went close to were they were but decided he would do his own thing. They had the coon.
We drove back around and rounded up Lumber.
Next drop Sounder struck then Slick and Lumber was there but didn't open. Slick treed and Sounder and Lumber went on. We got to Slicks tree and it was about 5 inches around slick as a whistle. Lumber finally came in and Sounder treed at 800 yards Tom and I went to him and he had the coon we called it a night.

Well as they say I was winning my cast till the last 10 minutes and Magic decided to cover dogs that he hadn't all night after tree closed which cost him 50- and he lost the hunt by 25+. He split treed twice from the dogs tonight and did a very nice job. Crap happens

Well after sitting at home till 10 pm I decided what the heck. I might as well take Lumber for a walk on the river for a few hours.
As I drove down the gravel I saw a coon cross so I stopped. Lumber was pulling me like crazy so I turned him loose. He ran with his head up and drove the coon only to end the track somewhere. He didn't tree so I have no idea what happened.
Well once I got on the river finally I cut him loose and he seems to want to hunt on the run. He stayed busy for the most part all night but didn't range too far maybe 200 yards at most. I tell you that pup can wind a coon 30 or 40 yards sitting in trees about 30 feet or more up. He located and treed some on the first coon that he winded off the level. He ran a couple of short tracks but didn't end them. I saw a total of 6 coons sitting up and four out of the six he winded. If he decides to stay treed on these he is going to look real good. It was a fun night out alone with the pup. I saw some good things. I can't wait till kitten coons and malberries come out this should be fun. I got home at 1:15 am. I didn't want to stop. This pup has loads of potential but time will tell.
