Cotton

Showed Cotton at Hasper hunt tonight. Got another CH win on her. That makes 2. Getting ready to hunt in hunt. Hopefully can get a cast win and get her ntch. Darren.

Darren you probably know this already about snake bites but if she comes off her feed ANY give her a cortizone shot to clear up
her liver where it has filtered out the poison and she will be good to go.

GREAT HUNT!!!

Had a great hunt last night. Cotton got snake bit Saturday night, so she got to rest up last night. I took BB, Blade ( 10mth old pup) and Ole Jet. Jet is 10 and don't get out to much!! First drop Jet struck followed by BB. they worked track for awhile and made their way down bottom. My pup opened a couple times as it was a bad track. BB finally located and settled in treeing. Jet backed her but my pup wanted to do his own thing. They had coon and my pup came in to the tree. Got them and made another drop. Jet opened on tree about 75yds directly in front of us and locked down. We got in there and he was alone. Heard BB open down bottom to the left along with Blade. Jet had his coon and we put him in truck. BB soon let out a locate and treed. About half way to the tree BLADE let out a locate and started hammering a tree. Got in there and he was split treed about 25 yds from BB. Both had their coon and I really worked BLADE over on the tree. He has been a natural born tree dog and I have High hopes for him. He is a grandpup of my Dual Grand Frostbite gyp and great grandpup of my Dual Grand Moonshine hound. Cotton should be back in action about weds night. Drake is fired up about BB and is going to be hitting the hunts to try to GRNTCH her. All you NtCh's better watch this pair!! LOL Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!! Darren

Zones

Clyde I didn't get anything qualified this year. I was huntin Cotton hard getting ready for the RQE at Goodsprings and she came in heat. I hunted BB and didn't do any good so I guess I'm sittin it out. Gone definately go to the Fall Round up. Are you gone be able to make it up there? Good luck in zones Clyde, hope you and Brummy wear them out. Darren

hunt

Went for a little while last night with a guy that is getting started back up hunting. He has 1400 acres of land to hunt, so I was excited to go see what it had to offer. We didn't have a very good hunt. First drop we cut Cotton , BB, and John loose down and old logging road. 675 yds later, we didn't get a bark and they came out on a road. We gathered them up and recut. They struck hot and ran a coon down a deep ditch and he went in creek bank. Gathered them up again and recut. They struck a bad track and started working it up a small ditch. they went about 300 yds and got close to a house and a barking house dog. We pulled up the road and they were close to the house so I just called them out. Called it a night. Got to go with him and do some scouting to find some better turnouts. Seen some nice timber and bottom land, just got to get familiar with roads and houses!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

Hunt

Man it was hot last night. First drop we cut BB and my buddy's dog Dolly. They struck bad track and worked it out of bottom in the hills and it just fell apart. They were in no mans land and took us forever to walk in and get close enough to tell what they were doing. We finally called them out. I cut Cotton and my pup Blade loose at 10:30. Cotton struck and worked a bad track down bottom and loaded up treed. I finally found her coon and we recut her to my pup. He was on down bottom but not opening. Cotton struck again and just opened sporadically here and there. She finally got treed again but tree was a huge bay tree and I couldn't find her coon. I had to drive around and gather my up my puppy. He didn't get anything going but was tickled he hunted hard and was alone most of night. He is 11 mths old and has split treed and treed his own coon. Y'all keep'em lookin up!!!! Darren

HUNT

Went for a little while last night. Got a late start, had football practice til 7:45 then ate supper. Turned BB and Blue Bomber loose first drop. Blue is 7yrs old and is a PKC ntch. He has never been in a UKC hunt. He has been stood up for about 2 yrs now. They left in a dead run and BB struck at about 100 yds. Blue struck with her. They worked the track about 200yds in bottom and BB loaded up treed. Blue backed her and treed pretty ggod. Couldn't find their coon as the tree was very leafy and viney. Cut Cotton alone on next drop. She struck in at about 100yds and really got a track going good. She was soon screaming wide open and coon ran about 175 yds and climbed. Cotton treed hard and was up a small tree running into a pine. She was putting the pressure on him. He was a large coon and she made him take that small tree. Next drop I cut Cotton alone again. She struck a bad track at about 150yds in bottom and started working. She moved it well but did get bogged down a couple times. Must have been an old feed track as she moved a long ways into the bottom. She soon left the bottom and trailed thru a pine thicket. Finally got back into the hardwood and treed. She was on a large oak with muscadine vines everywhere. Couldn't find the coon but he sure could've been in all that mess. Gone get after them again tonight!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin Up!! Darren

Went for a little while tonight. First drop we cut Rickett, BB, and Blue Bomber. Blue struck followed by BB and Rickett. They trailed about 400 yds in bottom and BB loaded up almost the same time as Blue. Rickett was split off to left. We got to tree and they were hammering pretty good. Rickett was split on leaning tree and think he was the victim of an up and over. BB and Blue had two coons. Next drop we cut Cotton alone. She got deep and covered alot of ground. Finally she opened two times and threw her locate and settled into her steady chop. We finally got in to her tree and she was up a huge pine with muscadine vines everywhere. I couldn't see the tree except for one small spot and couldn't find her coon. Gone stay after them. Y'all keep'em lookin up!! Darren

Drake and myself went for a while tonight. First drop we cut Cotton alone. She went about 75 yds and just fell treed. 3 trees all growed together and couldn't find coon. Next drop we cot Cotton alone again. She struck in at about 500 yds and started working a decent track. She worked down creek bottom and into some beaver ponds. Soon she loaded up and blowed top out. We drove around and got closer. Went in to tree and she was on 2 huge trees together. One was den, but she had 3 coons up tree. Next drop we cut BB and a young dog outa her we call Major League. BB struck followed by Major and they worked a bad track down the creek and then across bottom. We had to drive around a finally walked in a caught them up as they were headed towards a railroad and highway. Called it quits tonight and gone get after em again. Y'all keep'em lookin up. Darren.

HUNT

Took Cotton, Blade and Major for a hunt last night. Major is out of my NtCh BB female and NtCh Pr RTO's Blue Dealer. He turned two at end of June but hasn't been hunted a whole lot. First drop I cut Major and Blade loose. They hunted pretty good but didn't get struck. After about 25 minutes, I drove on around bottom and cut Cotton alone. Cotton struck and was soon joined by Blade and Major. They did a good job of moving track and Cotton loaded up followed by Major. I found coon after a lot of searching. Next drop I cut all three loose and Blade went one way and Cotton and Major went the other. I love and independent dog but they can be aggravating as pups. Ole Blade just wants to be alone all the time. He is 11mths old and has split treed and had his coon. Just need to hunt him alone on some feeders. Cotton struck in bottom followed by Major. Major soon treed and BB backed him. Both treed hard and Major has a big pretty locate and a bluetick mouth. I got to the tree and it was a persimmon tree. No coon seen!! Next drop I cut Blade alone and he hunted out pretty good for a pup. He couldn't get struck so I cut Cotton and Major in bottom. Blade turned and went 350 yds the other direction. Cotton struck in at about 900yds and Major followed. Drake and I drove around and Cotton loaded up treed. Major was close behind her and they treed good. They had a coon up another big water oak. We went back around and gathered up ole Blade and Called it a night. Got football practice tonight so I will hit it tomorrow night. Y'all Keep'em looin' Up!!!!!! Darren

Thanks Scott. One comment I make when I'm asked about Cotton is that she is mature beyond her age. She doesn't act like a dog that turned two at the end of June. There have been a few times lately that I turned her in where I had just sent other dogs and they couldnt get anything going and she goes deep and gets a coon treed. I am really impressed with her to do that at her age. She is not perfect for sure , but I really like her and she has alot to offer. No nonsense type of female. Not trying to rush her age, but I look forward to seeing her at 3yrs old. This coon season should really put all the finishing touches on her. Darren

HUNT

Went for a little while last night. My old hunting buddy Matt Smith went with us. First time he has been in probably 6 mths. We cut Cotton, Major and Blade loose on first drop. They went left and Major struck followed by Cotton. They moved the track good for a little while but it soon hit all the water in the swamp and it slowed down some. Cotton soon figured it out and let out her screaming dying bawl locate. Major soon backed her and we waded all the mud and water to get to them. They were on a bay tree that grew into two other bay trees and I couldn't find her coon. She has been very accurate but I sure didn't find him. Next drop we cut all three loose again. My Blade pup is a dead loner and is somewhat aggravating right now. Cotton struck at about 600yds and Major put in with her. They got hard to hear and we drove around. When I got out of the truck they were treed solid. We had an easy walk to a big oak with muscadine vines everywhere. Couldn't find the coon again. I thought I saw him a couple times but couldn't make him look again. Drake thought he saw him moving around as well. Blade wasn't there , so I checked my Garmin and he was 585 yds the other direction. We drove around and he was in some rough stuff in bottom. I finally just walked in and caught him up. We called it a night and got home about 12:30am. Be glad when leaves are off and cooler weather prevails!!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren

Get her tuned up for the Roundup.
Hunted last three nights. Took Annie on Saturday. Hammerhead and Heather last night and Banjo and Heather tonight. Heather is the one I hope to have tuned for the Roundup. Time will tell.

Gone take ole Cotton alone again tonight. Hope coons stir a little better. Moon shining bright last couple nights. Starting to cool down some around here at night anyway. Been getting down in the mid 60's. Not where I would like it to be but some relief from the 80 degree nights we been having here. Hasn't rained here in about 3weeks now. Getting dry everywhere!! I'm excited to be going to the fall roundup. Hope to meet a lot of guys that I talk to on the board and the phone. Really looking forward to seeing the blue dogs. Y'all keep'em Lookin' Up!! Darren
