There were alot of Sorry Brood Females Bred to Lipper & that undoubtedly changed things......But you can bet that Lipper put his Mark in the Walker Breed.& hasn't been anything like him since.
These so called Stud Dogs today sound like Coyotes & look like Greyhounds........No comparison at all.

I believe Sackett Jr. was killed in the road by a vehicle while on a night hunt. Story I heard is that Mac McAllister offered Frank Giddings $50K for the dog after pleasure hunting with him and Frank said he wasn’t for sale. Shortly after that Frank had placed him in a night hunt and the dog got killed in the road while on the hunt.

Not sure if that was true or not. Some Walker folks on here most know?

Ok,I remember reading about it but can't remember the exact story.ha.A shame. The best coonhound I ever owned or hunted with was a English female that also got killed on the road while hunting.Broke my heart.I doubt Sacket Jr was the coondog she was.lol.But I would have took 50k for her.

Sackett Jr was killed on the road while pleasure hunting. Frank still owned him.

I always thought the reason that Lipper didn't have a very high percentage of pups make nite ch and grand nite was because the time frame he was at stud. During that time frame there were more people that just hide hunted because a few coon hides would bring as much money as a day of work. Minimum wage was about $3 an hour and a good hide would bring $30. A lot more nice coonhounds didn't make it to the nite hunts back then. They could make money off their dogs without taking them to nite hunts.

Surely you're kidding! There were a lot more entries in the hunts then than almost any other time and besides that they have been hunting dogs directly out of him until very recent.

There were more entries then because there were 20x more coonhunters. Every coonhunter that I know now competition hunts. Thirty years ago less than half of the hunters I knew competition hunted their hounds. In my area there are no hide hunters left.

People filled up ditch after ditch with Lipper pups but when you got a good one it wasn't only good it was classy, loud, and impressive in every way.

I never hunted with lipper or owned a pup off him, but I hunted with several off a female called blue ridge big Matthew. I believe she was off of yadkin tar rattler. They all had great mouths, the best dog I ever hunted with was out of this cross, he weighed about a hundred pounds , had a huge bawl mouth and sounded like a train when he treed. You could rig him in the bed of a truck, if he barked just slow down and he would hop out, he was usually treed by the time you got parked.. most times you couldn't even hear another dog on the tree with him

That’s correct, you can listen to Mr Frank tell the story about Sackett Jr on the Joy Dog Food pod cast, with host Jeremy.
