Den trees
My first thought on getting too many dens: "Is the dog running a backtrack?" You can usually tell.
But, if coon aren't moving, they will hang close to their dens (tree or hole in the ground).
Also, if a coon is being pursued, it will often head for refuge (den tree, hole in the ground, etc.).
If you've harvested coon off a den, hole, rock bank, etc. you'd notice that they tend to be older and larger than average. Smarter coon?
