Dave, I understand what you’re saying , but the real issue lays within people’s opinion. Example : this dog has a monster mouth, you say it has a good mouth. I say this dog hunts hard, you say it hunts average. So much of this sport is opinion of folks. Now we are in a cast and my dog makes a tree and coon is found in next tree over, I see a limb that grows over into the tree and honestly feel the coon could have crossed, you don’t honestly think it could have so now we have no criteria to consider and both of us feel we are within what is correct……
I know no set of rules will not be perfect for every situation and sometimes a dog will take a bad break. I do feel that a definition of what that criteria is would be a better way to approach it. Let’s just say these as a example : the tree has to be connected physically and it has a very small vine running over to the tree with a coon in it (too small for what most think a coon would cross out on) so then the break goes in favor of the dog and it’s plus. Maybe the tree is not touching but had two limbs the diameter of your leg a couple inches apart and the coon is even sitting on that same limb in the adjacent tree, dogs takes a bad break and gets minus.
Just a couple things to think about
Sonny, I agree that there are various things that folks can have a different opinion or viewpoint about, that's ALWAYS going to be as certain things are surely objective such as hunt, mouth, and even looks. My remarks are directed to those who lie about things or use a different measuring stick on their dogs as opposed to the other man's dog. I really wonder how they view the same situation different when pleasure hunting than they do competition hunting. I like to think my measuring stick applies to mine and other dogs the same. I like to think that I judge things the same pleasure hunting by myself or competition hunting with a cast. A man should be consistent in everything he does. Dave
