All dogs slick in real live hunting conditions. Lot of folks won’t admit it but they do. Fewer still will correct them for it. Do not beat the dog half to death with a switch. Just make it uncomfortable and tell him bad dog. Slick. Then send him on.

This dog game isn’t rocket science. Just takes a lot of hunting, time and common sense. Good luck.

I think that every time a dog is handled on a leash at a slick tree it reinforces the behavior , the only way I had any success from sending one on is when I left them at large and shined the tree and if blank them send them on ,once leashed then sent on all you are doing is teaching them to recast ,

Ive hunted close to 60 years and never heard of the method dogwhisper mentioned and to be honest only had I dog I had problems with and he was walker.But I like hes thinking and I would try hes method.I would add when he trees and has the coon for at least the first few I would knock them out to him as dead as possible.I mentioned dead as possible thinking he may have gotten ate up by a coon and is tired of fighting them.
