Guys I don't know what everyone is hunting but im hunting a dog, now is he a goodone yes indeed he really really is, but hes just a dog at the end of the day.Country is the best that I personally have put a lead strap on and yes in my opinion that includes Bad habit, salt creek jeni,Ton of mayhem,Triple creek rat,Clutch,Switch creek Lace,Clayton Mayhem,Flying man,etc etc.Can these dogs beat him yes they can/could everyone of them can wear him out,so how do I decide that hes the best one and its not as simple as going hunting a night or two and deciding its seeing him in all different situtations in a ton of different states, terrrain and so fort.Country is without a doudt a coon dog that will hold his own with any of them when it comes to treeing and having the meat,if I go and don't see a coon I laugh within myself and walk off saying well hes a dog too(you go in knwing your gonna score a coon). He can first and first with em all on a hot track,he can trail one thru the country and have him and he falls treed a lot on layups .Pleasure hunting you would think hes about silent very few times will he bark on the ground in a cast with other dogs he a first or second honest strike dog I don't know why the change I haven't figured that out yet.The country that I hunt is as independent as ive ever wanted one to be and I hunt loners not covers again I said the country that I hunt. I don't know how he was before I got him, nightshift anytime you wanna come down I will cut him towards a dog or dogs treed and give you a 100 dollar bill everytime he covers and when he don't you just give me a 50(now again im not saying you didn't see him cover obviously you did im saying that's not the dog im leading around now)Does he walk on water no and far from it, is he the best ive ever hunted yes in my mind he is, but then again what do I know just a redneck from south Georgia that dresses preppy lol.Kenneth you would like him and anytime any of you guys wanna see him go just come on up hes hunted about 5 nights a week and I certainly have never and will never hide one from anyone.John Strickland

John I’ve hunted with you and several of the dogs you named with either you Jeff or Tim hunting them out of Ridgeland. Jeni was as tuff as there was around the marsh and Habit he was a bit of a rebel but could sure tree them coons. But if he is as you say he must be nice... you have been blessed to own several good ones (Tim would still sell him in a week) Enjoy him while you can and good luck !!

I haven’t hunted with him in over a year but I seen back on several trees. But he was being pushed in state money I know that can mess one up. I just assumed he was that style get his own and some of yours. But he was fast at putting them up. Took a 100 on strike every time I seen him cut. I was just saying my personal experience hunting with him. Like I said being pushed in $30 hunts will jack a dog up. Jason Smith

I most generally always avoid these type of posts like the plague, but since I raised 'Big Country' and made the tough decision to sell him I suppose I'm qualified to speak on the subject. Over the course of the past few years this dog has become the topic of many discussions, for the most part positive and like always with this sport some negative on occasion. I have always been the type to brag and acknowledge a good dog owned by someone else vs my own. I no longer own Country so now I can brag all I want! In the 30 years I've been involved with coon hunting, NEVER have I seen or experienced a more complete package for a coon hound than Country. When you sift through his pedigree there is a lot of houndsmen to be recognized for their hard work and efforts because Country is simply a product of his ancestory. I've had 10 different pups at my house in the last 2 years out of Country, and the way he is marking his pups is uncanny to say the least. If people don't sleep on breeding to him his reproduction records in the long run could quite possibly be just as impressive as his competition records. I can't tell you how many times I've been asked as to what particular line of blueticks I prefer. And my answer is always the same, "I don't prefer any line of blueticks, I prefer a particular style of hound!" I don't wear enough clothes in the winter time to stay warm standing still for more than 10 minutes. If what I cut loose cannot consistently be struck and treed in that timeframe with a coon a VERY large percentage of the time its not going to cut it. The bluetick breed is at a very critical time in my opinion that has a great opportunity to make great advancements in the competition world if they take advantage of it. At the end of the day Country is still just a dog that has proven he can beat the best and also be beat by the worst. But, when someone like John Strickland publicly states that he is the best he has ever unsnapped you better pay attention.

I have personally talked to John and he will tell you like it is on Country also. Having thrown my hat in the ring on putting a male out for stud l now know why some dont do it. I used to be negative on some things that l personlly did not witness. No more. Look at the results of the wins and the young dogs winning out of Country. Just my take on things. For what it is worth.

Of the pups that I've had at my house only 4 were around long enough for me to actually start and hunt. The others were sold as I most generally raise them in pairs. These 4 pups were out of 3 different females. All 4 were easy starters at 7-9 months of age with 3 out of the 4 being really balanced from track to tree. These 3 were pretty naturally straight from the get go, and progressed very quickly each night out. I will add that they were all started alone and hunted alone a great deal before ever being with another dog. The 4th started easy, but was different than the other 3 in that she was more trashy and took her until she was closing in on 2 before she wanted to be a solid tree dog. All of these pups had as much hunt as you could want and were naturally independent. All of their mouths were probably above average IMO. Good locates and changeovers and most importantly ACCURATE. I've also hunted with some that I did not raise, and would say my description of them would be very comparable to what I stated. One of the things that stand out to me about all these pups were their personalities that remind me a lot of Country. Very personable pups that love your attention and are very eager to please the owners when it comes time to train. Pups that don't require being handled with a heavy hand and are particularly smart. I'm extremely particular about looks and I've not seen a great number of pups out of him that didn't meet my standards. They typically are built similar to Country with a good amount of leg under them and are put up nice and tight. One very important characteristic that I forgot to mention and maybe the most important to me, is the type of track dogs his pups have shown to be. How a pup naturally runs a track and handles scent in the air is one of the first things I try to determine in pups and young dogs. All these pups are capable of doing work with their heads up off the ground, without having to suck and flip over leaves. An absolute must have in my kennels.

I also should say that I've never raised or owned this many pups from any other stud in my years of coon hunting, so I could be slightly bias. But, I feel like I've seen enough firsthand to have a decent perspective on what he is capable of reproducing. There will certainly be plenty of sinkhole cull material amongst these litters no doubt, and also plenty of average coon dogs too. But I whole heartedly believe the good ones out of him are going to be really good. The true results will come to light over the next few years, and based on my personal experiences so far and feed back from others it looks promising.

I hear about some young male dogs from Country doing some winning. Are there also some females starting to show up that are hard hunting, good tracking, and accurate tree dogs?
