Tar is a little on the edge, he can teeter either way. There are lots of dogs in Okla that can tree a coon, but Coon Dogs are still few and far between. Ive started as many and less than some, the problem with pups is, they might make a nice hound, but still not be the kind of hound you want to pack. If I could find a good hound I never minded paying the price to get one.

I have one now that anyone who has ever hunted with definitely knows he is a coon dog. However, he is nearly 14 years old come December. I will still show him to anyone that knows what a coon dog IS, can he perform like he did in his prime? No, but he will do enough that you can tell what he is. He is not dead, but not in his prime, just like me. Lol. My hunting partner has one that we will show any night and he is in his prime. I have only owned 3 that I called a coon dog and my hunting partner has only owned 3 that he called a coon dog, and 1 of the 6 is the same dog, that only makes 5 between the both of us. We both have over 110 years combined hunting and 5 dogs in that time is not a lot. If anyone wants to see either of these 2 dogs operate this winter, just let me know, hopefully, mine will still be alive. Dave

A real coondog sets the bar so high that anything else is just not good enough for those that want the best. I went for over 30 years between my second real coondog and my third real coondog, twenty years or so between the first and second coondog. That's with me buying the best I could find, not wasting time trying to train one. I had way more dogs to choose from that someone who trained their own dogs. Coon dogs do not grow in bunches like grapes, they are few and far between. I consider myself very lucky to have owned the 3 that I called coon dogs and everyone that hunted with them were impressed. Some never own a real coondog. I really do not expect to own another one, at my age, I do not have another 30 years to find one. Lol. Dave

I ain't sure , I got some fine varmint dogs , extra trashy depression era , sportsmen hounds , extra on the trashy side. LOL and S/FI!
