So, we don't know new tracks from old tracks. All we know is if our dog can move them or not.

A friend of mine On his way to work early one morning saw a big boar hog cross the road about 6 am...after work he went straight home and got his best weems bred Plott hound and put the dog on the track and he took it...it was around 5 pm...he didn’t get his dog back until the next day but he had that hog stopped...this was back in the early 1980s...

Guess if you really wanted to know you could live trap a coon, release it and note the time. Go back with your dog an hour or two or 3, however long you want to wait. Keep the dog on leash and walk along the track for as far as you saw the coon go anyways and see if the dog opens.

Most coon I've released in the past, if carried away a few miles before releasing, will go quite a distance provided they aren't being run right away.

Some might find their dog isn't quite as cold nosed as they thought??
