In regards to Mr Moores evaluation. One of the 2 dogs with the winning dog did get treed then pulled off to keep with the winning dog. #3 dog took the coon available in that particular woods. Had there been no tracks to take l know personally he would have headed out. The correct dog won the cast. He had more plus points at the end of the hour hunt. The #3 dog lost the cast fair and square.

SHOULD HAVE SCRATCHED THOSE TWO BABBLERS!!!!!!!

Seriously ..Every dog has its day.
Case in point .Take that same cast into thin coon instead of the Ohio thick coon and those two 45 minute track dogs maybe get the only tree all night.
Another case in point. Some may have short memories as I am pretty sure a couple posters on this thread may remember or heard about this next cast.Similar cast to the original question.
Was a nite champion cast right there in Ohio. One of the handlers had a dog that was a pretty consistant cast winner .Won some breed hunts and later did finish to Grntch.
Any way this dog struck a track and proceeded to run it nearly half the hunt.Another dog on this cast treed four coon behind the dog running the track then got in on that tree scoring well over 1000 points on that cast.
Later the owner of that losing tracking dog posted right here on this board the statement that "I lost, they brought coon dogs and I brought a hound." ,And that was why he got beat.

To each his own. I would rather hear a track .I get no fun out of walking from one tree to the next chasing 800 to 1000 yard dogs hearing nothing.Looking at a Garmin to figure out where my dog is and going over a hill to find it treed is not my type of hunting

I’m not hunting one that is going to spend an hour on the ground. I’m not saying that every once in a great while they won’t burn an hour and not get treed but I like action. I’d rather mine never bark as to listen to a dog that can’t run a track spend an hour whollering around to tree one coon. If your consistently trailing a coon for close to an hour you need to upgrade track dogs.

A lot depends on your location. If there are several coons in a woods, a dog can run til it finds a fast track. If there is only one coon in a woods, a dog needs to be able to tree that coon no matter how long it takes. Lots of coons means lots of action. Very few coons means not much action. Where I live, no one ever catches a coon on the ground but I can go up North and catch them on the ground.
