Just saying let them hunt is not as simple as it seems. I wish it was. I bet if it was as simple as that, Allen G would have said lets do it a long time ago, but he hasn't and there has to be a reason that would lead to and upset cart if they did. Why does one even think they pinned the director to the clubhouse in the first place? Yes it was a format change, but formatting it differently would require a rule change or two, and getting the redbone folks, lol, to agree would be impossible. At best, the apple cart is turned over.

The HD format may need an overhaul and as I said in another post above there is a reason that it works in other kc's that apparently were not thought out when implemented here if it is causing UKC the headache they say. A few minor fixes and there would be no reason they could not go to the woods. If the Redbones are the problem as you mentioned I will volunteer to be their rep I even own a Redbone. Ol' Red and I can be at Autumn Oaks in 2019 to help line it all out lol. I've got guys that would be more than happy to help on the Walker end of it and can find COONHUNTERS that comp hunt frequently at all levels for just about any other breed if they need it too.

Jen you aren't seeing the picture clearly. The redbone thing was picking a joke at Richard. I really could care less at this point, except to say that when you get what want, be happy and stop complaining. Seems we just keep jumping from one thing to another to fix it as we want it today and we'll worry about tomorrow later when it doesn't fit our agenda then.

Rock, don't stop her. We need all of the Redbone people we can get. Jen, I am glad to hear that at some point you were smart enough to get a Redbone. If you really want a nice Coonhound that you would be proud to hunt, I will be having some pups in Jan. And Chey won't have to trade his truck for one.

Jen, maybe you could come up with a proposal with changes to the UKC Hunt Director and panel program that would include letting them hunt. You could submit it directly to Mr Gingerich. I bet that he would give a well thought out proposal from someone with experience in how it works in that other Kennel club a lot more consideration than he would a lot of babbling on the interweb.

There are a few fixes and rules need to be current for today's world. People hunt a different style of dog and want something different in a competition. Clubs needs are much different than they were decades ago. There are policies found in the advisor that have never been put into the actual rules but are expected to be know by all also. There are a handful of things hunters have been asking for for years and a few rules that just need a slight clean up.
Hunting HD's are used successfully in hundreds of hunts a year but the policies in place for which they got the title HD are not here nor are there policies to address the issues that may arise from them not being at the building like there are in the other KC's, many want this addressed for the benefit of their club.
I know you were picking on Richard I do it all the time and I do own a Redbone. My point is when you fix things right it works alot better whether it is rules or policies which a group of 14 choose for everyone. I do hope the powers that be choose people who are knowledgable coonhunters actively involved at all levels to make any changes. It will save alot a headache for all, even the Redbones. & Richard lol.

I have several thing I have been working on and hope to have them all completed by shortly after the first of the year. They will be going to a few breed organizations that the other half here is a member of. HD format had not been one but I am sure that we can work on that too. I think Allen's "headache" (other than us lol) with the HD is in the way it was originally implemented there were no qualifications for it and UKC had no say in who got to be one unlike in the other kennel clubs that implemented them. This would not be an easy fix after clubs are accustom to letting just anyone sit at the club house but to allow hunting hunt directors has to be addressed. Each club in others typically has 2 that are kinda like a personal MOH for their club. Most had to do be an apprentice before they are even eligible to start being a hunt director. They are then responsible for all hunts. The problem with policy changes on allowing them to hunt here is adjusting past policy on how to make cast accountable for leaving cast to 1 hunter (that just does not happen there). Questions obviously can't be heard until a panel is assembled anyway now but their are way more ways to get scratched over here. There very few questions are ever brought in they know the rules or learn them quickly we have had 2 panels in years of hunts.
PS you would like Ol' Red and I am looking for a Walker to breed him to but everyone that comes here wants to breed to the spotted dog.

What are thoughts on a simplified rules pamphlet? The official rules book has 10 out of 111 pages that are devoted to night hunt rules most the pages are for breed standards and procedures for conducting various events that only BS judges, MOH and clubs conducting events need at their disposal. I know that you can download and print the entire thing if you choose for free or purchase in its entirety but is there a link for Nite Hunt Rules only that clubs could print for hunters? Maybe UKC could make it part of the clubs yearly packet. I see the back of the score card is quite crowded and not all that should be is included there and most of us need glasses to even read it.. Many will disagree but the space back there could be utilized better by other things and would save UKC money in not reprinting everytime a change is made.

All sounds good, now when you actually have people read it and follow the rules then you might get somewhere.

That could be all but impossible but it would be easier to read, easier to obtain and hopefully include policies that are not in the rules but are rules none the less. And save printing cost on new score cards. Think driving to trees proper procedure, deleting cages, live traps and enclosures all part of the rules but not found in them and as of now won't fit on the card. There are places the rules could be condensed that would free up room. There is one rule that is obsolete and can't be utilized and still listed and a few where a simple quote of Exception then rule number instead of redundancy of quoting nearly entire rule twice, the squirrel rule comes to mind on this one.

I get on her from time to time and read through the posts about changing this or that. It does create some interest, but primarily from the same few that post on everything from UKC to brownies. Not sure anything on here is a true representation of the folks that actually hunt UKC. All I know for sure is what goes on in my area. We have the old geezers(i am 68) and the younger hunters(18 to mid 30). What happened to the inbetweeners is a mystery, at least to me. The old geezers are either totally out of the hunts or just hanging on by a thread. The younger crowd that enjoy competition hunts don't give 2 hoots if they ever hunt UKC. Things have changed over time. Just an observation.

Guys it's no biggie on the bench show outcome. The rules are in the book. If I would have know about it I would have not entered the show. If anything I donated my entry fees to the club. Maybe they can put the money to use where they need it.

There will be more bench shows and now I know the rules a little better. I have been reading UKC rulebook.

These clubs are struggling down here with low numbers and less places to hunt. We just make the best of what we got and hope we got somewhere to go compete.

Hopefully in the future some changes will be made to benefit UKC and the local clubs both.

And if not I will just go back to being a river bottom pleasure hunter just like my granddad was.

Back in Sept our club was suppose to have a Bench show and my wife was going to be Judge but my Daddy passed away that day so we couldn't find a Judge to do the show so we didn't get to have it but was charged for the show anyway I tried to explain what had happened but all they was worried about was their money so they can have there Bench shows when they cant find any more Judges they will do something.

Mike sorry for yalls loss. That's ruff I cant believe yall had to pay with the circumstance. We ran into a problem the night my dad judged the bench show. He had a 15 minute notice that he was doing it. He did it so we could have a show to help pay for the hunt packet. But it is what it is. Rules are rules.
