Thanks Dave! A few years ago I was reading John Wicks articles in the American Cooner and he was training pups with a dog that had never seen a coon in its life and it was treeing them! Makes you really think doesn’t it?!

Back when I hunted all year long, I never killed coons in the spring or summer and my dogs treed as many in the spring and summer as they did in the fall and winter. I could not tell the difference, other than getting them off the trees. A good dog will tree coons without needing fur in its mouth. Dave

Richard, TWRA does not consider hunting with a redbone to be coonhunting! Something about give the poor guy a break, he's probably just hunting chickens. Lol. Dave. P.s. Sorry Richard, Tars rubbing off on me.

The bad thing is that you are right. They don't even stop anymore when they see my Jeep. If I am there, they just wave as they go by.

Now, we both know that's not true! I dare to say that your red dogs can hold their own with anybody's dogs. Just send ole BOONE up my way. Dave

I got me a Pro Handler and sent Boone up to Indiana a couple of years ago. He goes way too deep for me to keep up with.

I think I see where the confusion on the early Tn is coming from. if you go to twra.gov and bring up the hunting guide, notice its only valid AUGUST 1, 2017 THRU jULY 31, 2018. Also if you just go to page 16 in this guide online it says PRIVATE LAND HUNTING EFFECTIVE SUNSET JULY 1, 2018 THRU SUNRISE SEPT. 15, 2018. THATS ALL IT SAYS.....BUT IF YOU LOOK FURTHER, THERE IS A TENNESSEE HUNTING SEASONS SUMMARY PAGE. AND ON THAT PAGE IT DOES OUTLINE WHICH COUNTIES ARE OPEN AND WHICH COUNTIES ARE CLOSED. to answer somebody else question, looks to me like marion county and sequatchie county are open to the early private land season. hope this keeps somebody outta trouble and court. two places say 2 different things.....sorta....

Confusion isn't limited to the public, there has been WAY TO MUCH CONFUSION WITHIN TWRA ITSELF. EXAMPLE, some of my friends have called the Morristown office and were given INCORRECT INFORMATION that the season was open. HOPEFULLY, this issue has been CLARIFIED and EVERYONE IS ON THE SAME PAGE. MAKE sure you ask for LAW ENFORCEMENT AND SPEAK TO THEM ABOUT SEASONS, ETC. as the CLERICAL STAFF DOES NOT KNOW THE REGULATIONS. Dave

Thankfully, the Wardens have the CORRECT INFORMATION regarding the CLOSED COUNTIES. Unfortunately, some of the CLERICAL STAFF were giving the wrong INFORMATION to those who called the MORRISTOWN REGIONAL OFFICE. HOPEFULLY, they have been EDUCATED and this won't happen anymore. Dave

The game wardens will never admit they gave their staff the wrong info and blame it somewhere else

It's kind of sad when someone like me knows more about the hunting regulations, SEASONS, ETC, than employees of TWRA, especially, those working in a REGIONAL OFFICE and giving INCORRECT INFORMATION to folks calling them for INFORMATION. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLY TIMES WITH CALLERS BEING TOLD THE SEASON WAS OPEN, WHEN THE SEASON WAS CLOSED IN THE EASTERN COUNTIES. I PERSONALLY HAD TO EXPLAIN THE REGULATIONS TO A STAFF MEMBER IN MORRISTOWN THAT THESE COUNTIES WERE CLOSED. SOME THAT HAD BEEN GIVEN THE INCORRECT INFORMATION HAD BEEN HUNTING AND KILLING COONS IN CLOSED COUNTIES. LUCKY NO ONE WAS CAUGHT AND TICKETED FOR TWRAS MISTAKES. SOME OF THESE HUNTERS LIVE IN ANOTHER STATE [ VIRGINIA] WHAT A MESS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN. Dave
