Roy he has a good disposition and he was treed across the river the other night I hollerd one time and he swam right to me he has some good qualities I get him right he will be a good old man dog lol.

Kind of sounds like he doesn't check trees then. And I've never seen one be able to be taught to check. I'd say you'll need to approach him a different way than switching if he's not responding to it. Will he pull up short with any dog or just one he's being out tracked by?

I hunt him mostly by himself. Only with one other dog you got to realize he is basically a three year old puppy but I was not familiar with his bloodline so I am not to proud to ask to save time he might not ever be any better than he is but I am retired now and I can lay out hunting all night and enjoy myself lol.

Hard for me to believe he is having a problem on track. I ain’t seen one yet that had a problem with track. They do understand the e-collar. But I have never tried one one a treeing hound unless they had a possum. They are big babies. Had one when I whipped him he would go about 50 feet from me and not move lol. Until I petted him up.

Got a dog that treed slick way too much for me..it was obvious to me that this dog was on it's way to being a treeing idiot , I flat got tired of it's empties.......so one nite the dog trees,I go in, it's slick.
So I leave the dog there , went back to the truck & waited for the dog to make the correct decision on it's own. The dog decided to tree slick so I had to figure out a way to allow the dog to make the correct decision on it's own. It took the dog 30+ minutes to make that decision .
No switch no e-collar....
The dog doesn't tree any more just to be treeing.
Last 2 nites it went 2 fer 2 with frost on the ground.

I understand that he's inexperienced. And I'd be doing what you've been doing. But I'd try the e-collar or a light correction. I had a male 5 years ago or so that would do almost exactly what you're is doing. Then I got him corrected some but not completely broke from it, and he went on to be the worst dog on porcupines I've ever encountered.
