If your dog needs a buddy to hunt with he shouldn't be at a hunt. I don't care if mine covers. But I do care the same as Jim, or if he needs to go 300+ yards to get there. I'm not a fan of hunting one drop here and moving. I like to recut. You'd be surprised at how many guys don't work their dogs on going back to the same tree.

You are right. If you can’t recut it is tough to win consistently. A lot of dogs are lost after you unsnap them again

What I mean is Jim in the new kc's if I cut and I end up with 25 strike ( you know why lol ) and dogs are treed deep by then instead of being leash locked I get to cut and maybe get another one behind or the side of them no I won't have one go a long ways to cover. They only got three minutes to cover anyways.

What I'm saying Tar is that in that very situation your strike is shut out and at best you may get 25 on the tree. And nobody hunts for 25.

i got a first place win that made my dog a night champion on a very bad night when he got alone with a coon . took minus 125 once on tree when the 2 got him but kept his strike points . rest of the cast was done with -400 .lol some of us take what we can get .lol

Nope in $$$$ if all dogs are treed and you cut you go back in for 25 strike if you tree other than with them it's 100 tree if you back after 3 minutes you get 0 with a line through your strike I don't think anybody's got a dog fast enough to pull off of the tree and get to another's before the three is up lol.

quit living in the past .strike points equals winner in the new age and decreasing hunt times of the future . think with your power house you are going to draw out and go to a coon zoo every time . after 2 nights at the black eye pea clasic where half time ruby put on a coon treeing clinic night 3 they dry holed her . lol dont take long for the big boys to get the word out on a dog these days .most know every thing about any dog at any hunt they go to they might draw and what they need to increase odds of winning .

Well in the past is where my fondest memories are !! If I am expected to cuss the moh and judges , threaten to whoop everybody on a regular basis cuss like a sailor in front of women and children. Hunt a babbling, blow deep mean dog and pull the Hankey pankey to fill in the cracks to fit in !! .................. I just won't fit in !! You can still go to many hunts anywhere around here with an honest coon treeing dog and win !! And if you conduct your self with integrity these men will respect you. That's who I want to fit in with.

But that's just me !!

a good honest pleasure dog that is honest and good about having a coon will win a few hunts at the local level .might get lucky at the national level now and then . one you can stand to feed and hunt around the house and have some fun with.if you want to run a state race get truck tickets win a pile of money and have fortune and fame you need to have a dog like you described in the post above and no morals .lol the automatic strike dog that puts a coon you can see up a bush a mile away with sharp teeth is hard to beat with a good country coon hound .county coon dogs are what i enjoy hunting so guess im a dinosaur .lol

I disagree. There are some dogs out there that are not like you descibed are not barking idiots or mean that win state races get truck tickets and can be a pleasure to hunt and their owners have morals. Watch yourself when you go lumping all together, there are some great people and some nice guys in that catagory one my husband and several friends.
I'm going to use a phrase I think it was Elvis used a while back ... indifference. A dog that can be hunted with the best to the biggest piece of junk in any conditions and any terrain and is indifferent to all has one thing on his mind going and treeing coons, that would be a top competition hound.

Jen .........Elvis would know a dog no matter what else he does when he gets points he has to keep them I admire the people that put those dogs in those late rounds usually that means with the early round and the late round handler and hound have hunted 3 or 4 hours once when the coons were moving and later when they were not kinda like back in the day that last hour was tuff.

There's some differences in truck tickets vs big hunts. Big hunts the strike points matter more. Truck tickets are from local level hunts. Not many big winners are 25/100 type dogs. Only way to make up the difference for this type is to tree 1 more coon than the barker. And to do it you need speed. I'm not talking in the 4-5 mph range. More in the 10+ mph range. Which to find the ones that hunt that fast and once struck are still about that fast are extremely hard to find. But if you're hunting against a barker that averages 13-14mph then your chances are extremely low that you'll win the cast unless they slick. But another factor to throw in if your dog can't do the speed is accuracy. And just like racing speed is your friend or worst enemy.

You ever met a momma bear lol. No apology necessary.
Tar, Elvis' analogy on indifference is probably the best decription of a coondog I've read on here.
Back to your debate guys, we always enjoy reading, continue on.

80-90% of the time most disagreements between people are not about dogs, kc politics etc. or anything that has to do with living ones life much less hunting/training ones dog at all it is about, ignorance, jealousy, greed, envy etc. jmho
