Mr. Rosamond, have you had any experience feeding anything other than the chicken or turkey? My neighbor and I were discussing this just yesterday. He uses border collies to work 100 head of sheep every day and border collies have allergy issues with a lot of commercial feeds. They seem to do fine for a week or two then start with the skin irritation and pull off the feeds. He said he had went through quite a few brands of feed already and nothing seemed to be any better than the next. High end feed all the way down. He butchers lambs for people frequently and we were wondering if we could grind all the scrap and feed a raw diet but not sure if lamb can be used in the place of chicken and turkey. Do you think we could do something similar to what you describe with lamb as a substitute?

If you decide to use ground up Lamb , grind up the "organ meats" also.
I have been feeding all manner of raw diets to dogs.
I feed fish ,sardines, mackerals, butter fish, (salmon heads / bellies) in the summer.... pressure cooked to soften the bones. Its what I call a clean cool fuel for the dogs in summer
Colder times it's beef/ pork/ chicken/lamb organ meats along with the fats( tallow)
Becuz most commercial feeds contain 45% carbs. or higher kibble is also used spareingly.
Yes their is prep time involved, but I'm accustomed 2 it.....been feeding raw 8+ yrs.

Again fat has twice the calories per gram as protein and carbs. have .
It's calorically dense and a primary canine energy source, for hunting & sled dogs.

Lamb would be great, but there has to be a more added. Something to supplement the minerals. In the wild they would eat the stomach contents of the animals and get everything else they need. So we have to supplement those things. He should also save the organ meat and feed it to them. The only issue he would have is their bones are to big for the dog, so he can get ground up bone to put on the feed. If he has enough he really has the perfect situation for feeding raw.

We've talked about it a few times over the last 2 years. He doesn't have enough for us both but he could easily feed his 2 with the amount of lambs he slaughters throughout the year. How much ground bone would you think should be mixed in with every portion? He's chomping at the bit to give it a try.

As a rule of thumb.....10% bone add to raw mixtures.
