It is hard to make plans until you know the weather/rain forecast. It is very flat and low lying. If there is too much rain they close it down.

if there happens to be to much rain the dogs could be cut in joeys deer lease in the hills . POLK BOYOU . love to hear the hounds when they get after a ridge running acorn eating bore in hill country .

Couple of my friends and I could guide sylamore wma, gene rush, and a few private land spots up here in the hills if the bottoms were flooded.

Something might change but if it stays the way it looks like its going to, you will be able to almost walk across white river. Very dry here. The river was at 9.37 this morning and falling. It closes at 26 feet.

The more the merrier Tar. I would come and just watch.

thomasg, if I had to coon hunt my deer lease I would quit!

Man, that redbone in the picture is a fine looking dog. He is as nice of a redbone as one will see, dark red no white. Dave

Tarbaby, you won't get much sympathy on this forum. These guys can be pretty brutal.
In the past, because it floods so much and the trees are so big, there was no undergrowth. The woods were very clean. But it has been dry for a couple of years and they have started to do some logging. Now there is a little undergrowth in places. Tar, if you would get one of these slow Redbones like I have then you would not have to worry.

I know about the flooding all to well last year all these bottoms flooded the salinity of the river killed a lot of big trees the limbs are now falling off and the crap is starting to grow all over it somtimes a 100 yrds feels like a mile I used to know how to get around the bad stuff it's all bad now. Redbone or Walker when they tree you got to go they done their part.

Always heard about this place would love to go. Is there any campgrounds close by where you could pull a camper to stay in for 2 or 3 nights with water and power hookup?

I normaly drive back and forth. Its 2 hours to the south unit for me, not much difference to get to the north unit.

Mark, I have taken a camper and stayed at Merrisach lake but its a little far from the main part of the refuge. Really nice place though. I'm going to look up around dewitt this year for a place.

I just came outta the refuge after 4 days. Less coon & sign then I've ever seen there. I'm thinking the floods this year really wiped em out. Usually see several from the stand at dusk but not this year.

Have they finished harvesting crops? I hunted the edge of it a few weeks ago and we tree 12.

Tarbaby, you don't have to make up excuses. We all understand. If your scared, just say your scared and stay home. I don't think that these guys are coming for the coons.
They want to see/hear what a Tarbaby looks like.
