20 years ago. Maybe 19. It was my first hound. I had no tracker. She'd usually get deep and get treed, right or wrong. This one night though, nothing. She had no reverse. I'd heard about the jacket thing, and it works! I was about 20. That was the one time I didn't bring home my dog. I be always gone and got them no matter what. If I can find em, I'm going. My dogs are real special to me. I didn't get brought up coon hunting. Coon huntin found me though, and im lucky for it. I was back roading and came up on a fella standing outside his truck. I stopped and asked if he needed help. He laughed and said no, just listening to my hounds. I asked what they were doing. He said, they are treed on a coon. Want to come with me to check it out? That guy didnt know it then, but he gave me something thats burned like fire in me and got me through many a hard stretch of life. I have been stomping the hills flat chasing walker dogs ever since. The worse life gets me down, the harder I hunt. Some folks need medicine to cope with stress, heartache, whatever is bothering them... As for myself, what makes me feel good is them dogs. I admire a coondog to much to leave one. They do me to much good inside to quit em like that. Now that's just me, and yall can laugh if you want, but some of you know what I'm talking about. A coondog is royalty among dogs as far as I'm concerned! I won't leave one behind. I understand they are just dogs to some folks. Not me though.
