It's no beauty queen and still has the peep sights on it but has killed a few coon over the years.

.

Several things I had to consider when getting a .22 and that is what I want to tote around and the state laws. Ours have evolved and you can carry a semi auto now but it is only loaded at the tree. I like the lightness of the single shot but keeping up with bullets and not wasting them by losing them is hard for me. I put them in my pockets and they end up on my desk, on the fridge, on my night table and worse of all in the washing machine which makes the wife unhappy.
I like the rugger 10/22 because you have the bullets in a clip and can get it in and out easy and the clip keeps up with the shells.
I have tried and like a pistol, the beretta Neos and I have a red dot scope on it. Only problem is I forget to turn the red dot off and my scope battery is always dead. Tried to shoot one night with out the dot and that was useless.

I shoot about a dozen coons a year and use a Remington model 597 semi with a 10 shot clip and a laser scope. Used to be we were only allowed to use a single shot with short shells. Not much better then a sling shot but these days any 22 cal rim fire is allowed. Be handy to use a hand gun but the laws up here are crazy for them. Likely lookin at 2 years in the pen if you're caught with one on you or in a vehicle. Can have one if its registered only for shooting range and need a permit to leave the house with it and you better not take
any detours to the range or back. Go to jail do not pass go do not collect $200.

Ruger Mark II target with a 10" bull barrel and a pistol grip lazer sight or a Ruger 10/22 with a red dot scope. Mostly carry the pistol, easier to get through thick places with the pistol.

Unless you have a special permit to carry a handgun for trapping
