I started in the Operations department and worked every job it had. Utility Operator, Aux. Operator, Unit Operator, Control Room Operator, Assistant Shift Sup. then finally Shift Sup.
Out of all them jobs working as a Control Room Operator was probably the best and most enjoyable. You were at your work station and no matter what happened you stayed there and handled the good and bad from there. Nothing like enjoying your shift and about half them lights start flashing. lol Our boards were not labeled as good as yours until one night I pushed a stop button for #2 ID Fan but meant to push the button for #3. It was my assignment then to label everything. lol

Bruce, on units 1&2 we have limited DCS controls, unit3 which is a super critical 1050mw unit has them. I enjoy my job as a control room operator and look forward to the challenge of it everyday. When I first started operating I punched a forced draft fan off and lost the unit in about 25 seconds. Lol. Nobody was happy. But I was new. I plan on moving to a shift supervisor position soon. Which might take me and my family to TN.

Depends,

Hopefully New Johnsonville, never have to worry about the Bluetick thing, or TN fan. I would rather be pitched naked into a multiflora roses thicket.

.

Mike what company do you work for, I assume TVA. I use to handle all the NERC reporting for our plant and all the GAD's information. I went to conferences twice a year and met several people from KY power plants at these meetings. Never forget many years ago when everything was moving into the computer age a Man from a KY power plant was giving a lecture at one of these meetings on real time trending. I think we were down in Clearwater FL and he had his computer hooked up to his power plant and had it up on a big screen showing us how all the new fangled stuff worked. He had all the operating parameters up showing temps, pressures, output and an virtually all the major stuff you monitor constantly. About the time he started to explain it to us the Unit Tripped. He went into a tailspin and excused himself from the meeting and ran out on the phone trying to figure out what happened back at the plant.

I can't tell by the picture but what we did is on the alarm panel up top all the alarms that were critical we tinted red.
You need to tell these guys what it felt like sitting in there having a shift running smooth talking to Chewbac on the phone or having a BBQ dinner and about half them lights start flashing.
