Bring them pups down here come Jan. Or the best you got. Full moon and everything iced over. All I can tell you is that 15 out of 18 high profile cast that we were on in the last 2 years in the winter in the Deep South 125+ would have won them. What I say doesn't come from what I read on here but just facts I keep up with. Come winter it won't be threads like this it will be accuracy threads. I've coon hunted long Enuff to know what I need to tree coons and win hunts against the best. If your just pleasure hunting a circle hunting hound that trees coons will work or if you just want to grand them out. If you want elite you nor your hound can be faint in the heart. You can win anywhere or tree coons anywhere if you got a hound with a big moter that can tree them when they run across them. Just had to vent. Lol

I am 58 yrs old been hunting all my life and if you got a dog that's a mile in here a lot you will quit you are in mud and briars and blood weeds all night long to each his own buuuut I been taking last strike and first tree lately and won more than I lost against some purty well known dogs but I know if I went to some of the majors I would probly get my butt beat different ball (game) I been there before not always about the dog.

No seriously, I would take anything he hunts, and even one of Chewbach s 13 month old dogs. Old guys, old time hounds.

I understand that. We're talking about dogs hunting close to tree coons. When the hard winter hits in if you don't have one willing to hit that branch and run a mile up it to strike you not going to tree many coons where I live. It's easy to tree coons right now.

I remember a gal , who used to post on here quite a bit about their stud dog.
Always telling how few coons there was where they lived.
Then , one time , she posted about a dog they had bought years prior , way before the stud dog.
Said the never knew there was so many coons around till they bought that old dog.
And then still kept on bragging on that stud dog and how few coons there was.
I don't think it even dawned on her what she had said.

My dad has always swore by these hounds, to this day he still keeps them. I can say this, if they tree they will be there and 95% you will see them.

Well my dogs only open when they got the front end of a track will not bark behind anouther dog really usually accurate stay put tree dogs bone throws the same and I like a dog that tightens its mouth up and gets away from all the nonsense from what I am seeing winning latley I am not the only one thinking that way chkc has the no leash lock and I like it two coons beats one coon any day and that's going to change things I think go back to having to tree coons to win big but I have seen a lot of changes in my time some good some not so good.

Ive had several born independent. A wipeout/skuna river pup. A sackett jr/clover. A rat/ buck creek or something another. I mean couldnt pour em on a tree with another dog. From birth. I had a Harry male. He would tree with something but the more you hunted him with dogs. The more independent he became. You could cut him right at them when he was right. Hed take off in a dead run barking every breath. Run right by tree and lots of times pull everything in the process lol.I loved that pup. I never worked on him. I had a rat female would be split with strange dogs more times than not. Never worked on her. Best 2 Ive ever had. One I have now I have worked on. Aint gonna lie. It has not helped a thing. Only thing its done is make him not tree when he does cover. Im done working on him. Just gonna let him be a dog.

LOL,at you guys. All I will every guarantee out of my dogs are if you drop a biscuit on the ground, it will be gone, and after feeding them they are going to lick the dish clean.

Yep, I own biscuit eating potlickers, but they are mine and they suit me. Drop deep or hunt in a circle, hot nosed or cold nosed, north or south it doesn't matter if they get you off the computer or couch.

Personally, I am on one of my longest dry spells in 43 years just getting a dog into the woods, and to be honest I would enjoy a bad hunt right now.

If a person will forget all the high expectations everybody else has for them when you set down on that tailgate with a big ole hot cup of coffee and listen to those dogs work it will make you see a lot that you might miss if your worried about what sombody else thinks. They are just dogs and we are just humans and neither are perfect.

Hot & dry lack of water to hunt on, sandy soil any hills higher than your bumper and not a great coon population to start out with. You gotta have a go hunting type dog with a better than average nose.
