Lol been married twice now love to hunt my first just couldn't handle me hunting at all she had to go my second wife well she didn't like it either so she had to go as well I got 3 wonderful children out of second marriage and I get to hunt now out of the deal me and one of my hunting buddies always says its harder to find a good hound as it is to find a good woman

After reading these posts, I'm going to remind my husband how darn lucky he is We' ll be together 40 yrs in September. The first 6.5, we lived together because he only had two wks vacation and he needed a wk to turkey hunt and a wk for archery season. If I wanted to go on a honeymoon, I had to wait until he got 3 wks vacation. He had never hunted coon until he got me a redbone/walker cross for Christmas. She actually kept us together because anytime he pissed me off, I threaten to take my dog (she was the best) and leave. His hunting wasn't a big problem for me to handle, but my horse riding was a big issue for him sometimes. He would hunt for wks day and night ...coon, turkey. and deer, but if I went riding all day, he thought I should sell my horse. More than once, I told him I would, as soon as he sold his: guns, bows, traps, and fishing poles. I still have 2 horses and he bought me a gooseneck trailer with a wkender package a few yrs ago so I guess we've adjusted.

I am very lucky. My wife never complains about my hunting or trapping. Whether it be coon,deer,turkey ect. She will go with me some. I am a very lucky man. I hunt very hard but manage my family time and hunt time well. Lots of nights I wait till my wife and kids are asleep before I head out for the night. The last thing I would ever want to do is jeopardize my marriage. My wife understands my passion for these hounds and the great outdoors.

i'm glad my wife isn't interested in hunting. if she was we'd be bankrupt. when she's interested in something, she wants it all and at any expense. I think she'd mortgage the house for a good coon dog.

I've been married and divorced, and remarried. And I'm here to tell you that, the best coon dog in the world isn't worth one good woman. She looks better smell better feels better, well you get the point. Believe me I know it's hard to leave a good dog in the pen, but she married you. When we come in from hunting around the house or competition, nothing feels like that warm body. Now granted I love coon hunting a whole lot, and God has giving me an angel to walk with in marriage (well this marriage anyway). I've found that having Christ in my life really helps with WANTING TO HAVE MY WAY ALL THE TIME. I never wanted a dog in the house, well now I have a dog in the house. I drove two hours to breed that dog, AUGH. I didn't want chickens, well now we have five chicken coops. JESUS take the wheel!! But we are happy and together

A well known hound man was asked how much it costs to have good hounds. He said "exactly half of everything you own." Haha

I was hit with the big D twenty some odd years ago. Still trying to get over it. Never wanted to be single, but don't think I could live through that again.

But I will share a concept I learned too late: the love bank

You have to keep your account in balance. When you do something that makes her sacrifice for you, it is a withdrawal. (Like leaving her to go hunting or buying hunting dogs or gear). When you make a sacrifice for her, it is a deposit. If you make more withdrawals than deposits, your relationship will fail. You might stay married, she might say it's OK, but it's not OK, and your relationship will fail.

Build up a good strong savings account in your love bank. Your family is sacred. Your marriage is sacred. You are blessed if you have one.

"Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her." Ephesians 5:25

It's a tall order.

34 Years married to the love of my life , my friends always say how does that woman put up with you lol ,I give her space and she gives me mine and we love each other unconditionally, I think she has gone to about 10 big hunts with me and has hunted maybe 3 times here at home, if she ever ask me to do something for her I do it no matter what I have planed, I try to give her everything she wants or needs as she comes first, I married her not my dogs, she has never once complained about my dogs or hunting and for the first 25 years of our marriage I was gone somewhere almost 5 nights a week hunting

I hunted 3-4 nights a week with my first wife. She hated it. Even though every vacation was what she wanted, every vehicle, as long as I had a truck, was what she wanted, every house we bought, was what she wanted. All nights I didn't hunt, was doing for her and the kids. Lasted 21 years. She said Coonhunting ruined our marriage. But I switched to beagles and rabbit hunting, but was told it was too late. Even though she worked and only hunted when she was at work,(I worked wing shift, alot of daytime off).
Now I have a county girl, been 10 years, she is my soulmate. she fully supports the hounds, I say "the hounds" as she has her own. She goes when she can. When I go to big hunts, she's taking care if the kennel. When I had surgery twice, she fed dogs cleaned kennels, everything.
Get a country girl guys, you'll never be sorry.

To heck with divorces. Been through several. Too painful. Found out that everything that went wrong in a marriage was my fault. Treated my last one like a queen and when she turned 50 she went crazy as a junebug. Since I'm 66 yrs old Ive decided I'd rather have another dog. If I get cold at night I just add another quilt or if I want to rip one under the covers I don't have to listen to any chin music. I can cook and wash clothes and most other chores and since I like to garden I've even learned to can. Hate to dust and clean floors but for a few bucks I can get some old lady to do it for me. That way it doesn't interfere with my fishing and hunting. And I can watch any tv channel I please pluss I win any argument I start. If I want some female companionship I can go out and pick up a stray and when I get tired of her I can just sit her back out. Getting old does have some advantages!
P.S. Im sure any woman reading this will raise her hackles so girls just love your husbands and put up with them because they are just men. If you don't they may get this attitude.

I been married for 15 years now thanks to the grace of the Lord my wife new I hunted before we married but when we were 3 months into our marrige something happend that changed it all. The Lord saw something in a pice of nothing like me and called me to preach I kept hunting for a while then I took my first church had to give up the hounds for about 12 years .had to learn what came first almost messed up over deer hunting to much bit the Lord kept that from happening.but a year ago the Lord let me get another hound and I have learned that as long as Jesus is what your life is built on then your family everything else will find its place.No hound no hobby no hunt is ever worth loosing the help meet that the Lord has allowed u to have and believe me it's hard to just stop but 15 years from now you'll look back and see it was well worth it to slow down I had to sell out to realize it didn't mean as much as I thought but what a glorious blessing I found when I did

Years ago, my wife and I were trudging through a fairly deep swamp to the treed dogs. I stopped and turned around as she neared me I leaned towards her, and said just in case ya didn't know I don't believe in divorce. I quickly turned back forward, and restarted my trek to the dogs. I could hear her trying to catch up to me in the deep water. After a bit of struggling, I felt a tap on my shoulder so I stopped and turned around. She said by the way I know where this swamp is, and i don't believe in divorce either.

True story.

I have told my friends if I come up missing check the swamp.lol

I think in many cases a successful, lasting marriage is simply because the woman was easy going, easy to get along with and happy with her own company. They are able or choice to accept the situation. Men tend to want to go their own way and be selfish and the woman must pick up the slack.
Of course I know there are many exceptions and I'm not interested in arguing about them.
