Now that is an excellant point and one that I have not seen addressed before. When I turned Little Zack loose in Georgia and had to pick him up in Florida, he sure wasn't hunting "back and forth". If a dog hunts back and forth and covers the entire woods or patch that you put him in, is he hunting deep? Which dog is hunting "deeper"? The one that hunts for 1 hr but hunts the entire woods that you put him in or the one that blows through the country and you have to pick him up on a road 1 mile away in 30 min. Is "deeper" always better?

The straight line dog will have coon ,the left/right will have coon the straight line dog blew past, however in the competition world is he equipped to handle the pressure the straight line dog puts on him? Both are coon hounds, is just a matter of personal preference, you can with a COONDAWG either way, strike em when they strike and tree em when they tree and you will win with either style😀😀

I now think which style is better depends on the terrain you are hunting. The thorough dog seems to do better on corn pieces and farms. Where the deep dog does better in the mountains. They both seem to work better than the other in different situations.

Personally I like a road hunter!! Or a dog that just walks with you as long there is a coon at the end of the track, and a youth hunter to shoot it out!! You will have a blast and preserve the sport of coon hunting for years to come!!!! That's what it's all about!!! Not cast wins!!! Nuff said

I myself dont find the ones you have to walk to be to much fun to hunt that being said I know all types have there place. I have a B&T that walk hunts and strikes from the car my son enjoys watching her.
I like a dog to hunt!! how deep dont matter so much as long as they hunt I just hunt tighter spots with the ones that dont go as deep.

I was just wondering what others considered a deep hunting dog
