A few years back my cousin Shannon and I went hunting one night. It had been a rough December with lots of snow and ice. We hunted the south facing side of the mountain where the snow had melted. Dogs struck and went toward the top and treed. When we got there one dog was not there. We headed back to the truck thinking he would come on. This was the days of beep beep. He never showed up and I tracked him in the same place for hours, just over the top from where we treed. Went home and came back the next morning and he was in the same place. Went to school, came back in the afternoon and he was still in the same place. Can't remember the specifics but for some reason I could not get into the place he was to go after him. Fudd stayed in there for two days. Shannon finally walked in to see if we could find him. He started in about an hour before I got there. Fudd had trailed over the top and onto the snow and ice pack. The top was so hard it would hold you up without breaking through. When the dog went over the top he slid down a ravine/hollow and was standing next to a tree and could not move. It was so steep and slick he couldn't get out. Funny part is when Shannon and I found him Shannon tried to get to him. He slipped and fell and looked like a bobsled racing down the mountain. Luckily he did not crash his head into a tree. We finally got the dog out by chopping through the ice with an axe and going down with a rope and pulling back up. We had a rescue party heling get him out. Moral of the story......stay home when wife says you are crazy for going tonight! Not saying that ever has worked!
