More times than not it is the person and not the dog that is the problem, a young dog will size the owner up and go from there and the last thing you need is to be the trainee instead of the trainer.

They can be a humbling experience.
Sounds like the pup doesn't have the "it factor", and you need to learn to knock out a racoon.

My brother had a Red Eagle female a lot like your pup.Some night she would boo hoo around every drop and couldn't tree a coon to save her life.We would sneak in on her and see what she was barking on.It was usually a log.Only thing I could figure was she was running mice and old squirrel tracks.She would back track a coon really bad to.It was wierd that she could run a hot deer or rutting coon really good.The backtrackers I've seen were born that way and never changed.Goodluck buddy.

My female used to do the exact same thing till I got a new huntin partner and started huntin her 6 or 7 nights a week. He had an old dog that was a coon treein machine. Once mine got to huntin with her every night she figured it out. There were also several nights of hunting by herself. Some of em just take longer than others to figure the whole thing out, just depends on how much time youre willin to spend on one. Now I would assume you probably dont bear hunt and that was another thing that helped mine alot, with 15 other dogs runnin the track with her its hard to not go with them and start figurin things out.
