"WE ARE NOT HUNTING FOR TITLES"
You take away the chance to get wins towards titles and you won't get enough kids to make a kids cast. Nor will you get parents to bring kids to a hunt where they can't title a dog. And see how many owners are willing to loan dogs to kids if they can't earn titles.
You are mistaken if you think kids want those titles any less than adults do, they want them more.
Much of what you are posting indicates you are not very in touch with these kids that are hunting in UKC today.

I was really joking about the getting run over thing, no apology is necessary, but thank you. I knew full well, as does everyone else that read this string, the point you were making and it is valid.
I totally agree with everything you are saying, but you lost me on the above clip...getting UKC involved for a "minimal entry fee" but no titles???? I mean, are the kids coming to this hunt just to say they made payment to the UKC??? Because with no titles and an entry fee what's in it for the kids????
My point, that you didn't really address was; why do we need to pay UKC to do this???? As you advocate, they are not giving the kids anything in return so...why pay them???
Again, there is nothing at all stopping a club from running youth casts...even taking up a collection and paying out the money to the winners, {just one example.} it could be done a lot of different ways. the one thing we can all agree on is helping kids.

My hope here was to get options on how this could be setup so that it would have a chance to be successful. IDEAS was I was looking for. Not trying to justify anything at all. In no way what so ever would want it to cause problems with anything that is currently setup now. I have a problem with explaining this by typing. If you look to the left and see where I am located. I type the way I talk. Think of it like this. Remember this should be a club decision to have a youth cast or not at any local hunt ONLY. Come up with some separate title system for youth cast. So that they have something to hunt for that gives them the feeling of being in a competition hunt. From there the reward for achievement could be handled by the local clubs or and even UKC. I will say again, dog will be required to have pluss points to win a cast always. No special treatment.just for the youth in that aspect. I do believe that all dogs will need to hunt together. Because of the low numbers of youth that will show up at the start. And hopefully I am wrong on that. Someone came up with the title system we have now. So why not something for a youth cast? If there were enough grand nights to go around this would give an avenue for those dogs to be used at the local night hunts again. Just a thought, a dog with two separate titles on his pedagree? Just wondering.

This same thing was started at a club not 50 miles from me, a stud owner wonted to have youth cast, the club said yes, the stud owner would haul 3 young kids that had never been coon hunting to the UKC hunts an provide dogs for all 3 plus one experienced youth handler, he got two dogs titled that was sired by his stud before we figured out what was going on, the youth get used and took advantage of in a lot of ways, I don't have the answers but youth cast are to easy for the crooks aka sharks to take advantage of.

my thought by ggetting ukc involved is this; first it would give us an avenue to advertise via internet or in the bloodlines upcoming events ,it could be put in the description below directions deadlines and so on so people looking for these events would have a way of finding them other than that i dont know how you would get the word out there you are having a youth cast ideas are greatly app next most states and breed assoc. have a youth hunt. it would be a way to struture some way to qualify or have a reward for being a youth state leader like in the other kc's.As far as not hunting for titles on dogs this would help eliminate joe dog owner from campaining a dog to gr nite simply from youth cast due to less competition. It would be up to the club to provide a trophy for the cast. This all being said it is a place to get their feet wet as they advance in learnig the rules and get a better grasp of how it works nature and competitive spirit will make them want to advance to the regular casts with the adults and try to title their dog. This will help in several ways first it gets the youth involved next when you draw a kid at a regular hunt he understand s the rules and will be a better part of the cast.me as a parent of a kid that loves to huntwould go to more of these due to the fact my daughter loves to hunt as well as several kids from our area tha would like to get involved but are afraid to due to not knowing the rules and the horror stories they hear from othe rs that have had a bad experience. basically UKC = avenue for advertisement of hunts and award for earning x amout of points toward a prize for year or state.Club=trophy and a quality guide and judge to mentor them. YOUTH= the foundation for our sport to grow and continue.

nitehunter 2004 this is exactley why they should not hunt toward s titles see my above post. who was the crook? the kid or the dog owner for manipulating the system?and who suffered?the kids cause they soon quit having them probably.

I was meaning two separate title systems not the same system. Just by having a champion title of some sort under a youth system should not have any bearing on the current system. For example. If a youth starts with a young dog and titles him all the way up in a youth system, and then the youth or even anyone else what's to hunt in the regular cast with the same dog. They will have to start over and meet all the current requirements to earn a title. Or even take a dog that has earned a grand night title and earn a youth champion title of some sort.

I got my kids into showing in the ffa. In school. We had a great time for years. Then onenight after haveing some teeth pulled. My 14 year old joy of my life went to bed and never got up. No reason was ever found. Dec.8 will be 4 years now. I have them memorys. Take it from me. Do all you can with your kids. You just never know. Sorry for getting this off track. I am just really wishing I could go huntting with my boy. Please pray for me and my family. Its a hard time of year.

my thoughts and prayers are with ya for the ones you have lost. The impact a good role model can make on a kids life can be a complete life changing event for them. and sometimes you set back and look and it turns out the kid was a better role model to us grown ups too....we all arent dealt a royal flush in the game of life, we have to play the hand we are dealt, but its how you play your cards that determines how the game ends..
