I can still remember John and my oldest son who was about 5 at the time eating slices of turnips in his white panel van while he was staying with me in Texas. This might have been the same trip that he was planning to stay with another hunter for a week as well. After he had been at the other guys place for a few days he called to see if he could come on over. I said sure, what's up, he said he was in a little too deep for his pleasure. It's seems the dogs had the run of the house, peeing and pooping as well with not much clean up. He wasn't as tough as he thought. The first time I met him was at Autumn Oaks in 1978. I rode with him to spectate his Grandnite cast with old Nell. After the cast, he ask me what I thought. I told him he was hunting a heck of coondog but he was the worst handler that I had ever seen. We have been friends since that night.

wick

Back around 1990 I called Mr. Wick a couple times about tracking systems. I couldn't decide on the new at the time wildlife 3 channel or a 10 channel. Three days later I came home from work and ups left a large box on my porch from wow. I opened it up and there was a 3 and 10 channel system with 4 collars all in padded cases. Probably $1100.00 worth of equipment back when a dollar was worth something. He trusted me after talking to him just 2 times . I tried them for a few days then called him and ordered a ats 16 channel. I sent them back the next day and 2 days later received the ats system. Do you think anybody would send me a astro system and alpha system to try out today without paying for them first. We know the answer to that.
Maybe Mr Conkey .

Elvis that was just about one of the nicest things I ever heard you say.

I Always felt about the same way about you that you handled great world champion caliber dogs for rich people so no doubt you could be a good handler but after reading ever comment you have ever made on here I think you are a great handler that would be a great asset to have handling any mans dog but it doesn't hurt to be handling Bellar's most the time.lol.

Mr. Wick

Remember getting the wick catalogs as a tennager. We're I ordered my first set of wick frog legs. Still have the 3 ch wildlife system and two Johnson collars in the brown wick case. Also have both the walk with wick books. I ask him once at A.O. why he didn't let someone keep the wick buisness going. His response was he didn't want someone to take over and not produce the same quality product and possibly ruin the wick name.

.

I remember one day back in about 1985 and I had just got home from work. Wife told me a package came in the mail and it was my boots and chaps from Wicks. I put them on and strolled around the house and couldn't wait for it to get dark. After about the second stroll around house the phone rang and they were calling me back to work. I hated to take those boots off. But I had to go pay for them.

have always read everything i had access to that mr wick wrote whether in books or magazines. good stuff for the most part. the what not to do or worst case scenario type stuff is what i enjoyed and helped me best.

however im betting right now during recovery he would rather spend time hearing from close family and friends not being bombarded with coon hunting stuff.

Everyone that has ever sold any coonhunting supplies especially snake chaps or waders jackets etc owes all there customer bases to John Wick and Joe East AKA Leaking Joe as Wick called him lol, I had a trx 3 I had ordered from him that quit working I called and sent him my unit and one collar and just one day after the ph call I had recieved a lonar trx 3 with 3 collats from him while mine got repaired If he were still in buisness I would buy all my dog supplies from him .Proubally the worst thing that ever happened to coon hunters was loosing WOW.Get well soon John!
