He was the most pressure proff tree dog ive ever seen. I never seen any kind of illness any where. He loves attention a real friendly dog. Sure wish i still had some good woods and a couble of 9 month old pups just like him, a real easy and natural starting dog. His litter mates were also easy starters. I made that cross two times with good results.

Thanks for this information Mr. Arnold. This is the reason we think Rock will be a good asset in the breeding pen. Early natural starting hounds looking to get treed and stay there with good tracking ability, with a nose for coon.

Casey's statement is a correct as well, he will miss some and when we first got him had been sitting up and did pull some truly slick trees. Most of what I have seen out of him is a coon or legitimate tree where I could not find a coon. I think some people will be put off by the statements, missing, pulling up short, doesn't mind getting treed as they will associate this with a slick treeing idiot. Rock is not that but we try to tell it like it is. From what I've seen the most accurate dogs, as in seeing coon at almost every tree, are deep hunting beeline hounds looking for a hot track to push up a tree quick. Most of them end up out of pocket while the other dogs are working tracks as they come, but you do get to see them under a coon after hunt time is over and you find out where they are.

Rock is an honest strike dog and opens at the first scent of coon, when you turn loose he is usually good for a few barks but I do not consider this babbling as he is not false barking just excited to go. After that it's a coon track. He's not afraid to be running a track and load up treed while other dogs are still working in the area, he's not afraid to back a dog and he's not worried by another dog backing him.

He's a good track dog but the privet thickets have given him some headaches.

Or they are the kind that take way too long to make a decision, checking and checking to make absolutely sure even though they ARE right, unable to ever get a first tree in a hunt. They spend the whole night letting other dogs grab their 125 right out from under them!!!

And on a side note.....I applaud the honesty of both you and Casey. Most people will say what everyone wants to hear. When you go hunt with the dog, you find out the truth. I like the fact that y'all tell it like it is. If you like what you hear, he is here for your inspection. If not, no one wasted their time and money. That's the way it should be.

Casey

I think thats the pic when he was about 10 months old. He was about 25 yards from his mother and sister. I seldom shoot coons maybe 4 are 5 a year but was hunting with a friend on his deer lease. We shot the coon to the two females. He never stopped treeing then we let him have his first coon. He had already been treeing for about a month and never put his mouth on a coon, i though that coon was going to kill that pup. Had a lot of fun that night.

Rock pup update

Casey I spoke to you a month or two ago in regards to the progress on my Rock pup. She will be a year old in a couple weeks.
This Female treed her first coon at 6 to 7 months old. I decided not to push her until a month ago, so I was only hunting her a one or two times a week. In the last month she has treed many coons and a few slicks. When she is turned loose, she will get treed right or wrong. She can fall treed with a layup and strike a cold feed track and have the meat.

I have to agree with the earlier post. Rock will reproduce early starting dogs looking to get treed. This pup has plenty of kennel cents, looks and Brains to boot. One more PLUS, This female does not and has not been hunted with another hound. She has been a Natural, and a pleasure to Start.
I would not think twice about buying another pup off of Rock.

I have to agree with Jeff. It is very, very refreshing to see folks share the weaknesses as well as the strengths of their hound! I wish everyone would do this.

Rock sounds like a very nice hound who has generations of nice hounds behind him. I wish you the best of luck with Rock!

Rock Pup

Bob,
Nice to see your female coming along. Hope she makes you a nice one. It has always been my rule here to only breed solid complete females and Cami was just that. I liked the way Rock was bred and hoped it would be a nice cross. Only time will tell and they will only get that chance in the hands of hunters. Good luck with her and keep us posted.

Kyle,
It is interesting to see the pedigree on your female. Her sire Gus was out of the last litter sired by Uncle Pen. That seemed to be a good cross and there are a few titled dogs out there from that cross.

Good luck to all,
Scott

I remember hearing about Rock several years ago and seeing a pic of him from a bigger hunt he had won. He was one of the best looking young blue dogs I had seen. I talked to Mr. Arnold at the time, and he described him just like y'all do. He sounded like the right kind.

I am really looking forward to seeing what you and Casey accomplish with him, in both the hunts and the stud pen. If he can reproduce his likeness, and is bred to quality females, the blue breed can't help but benefit from it.

I'll keep in touch.

Thanks Jeff,

Rock won his cast last night at a local PKC hunt. Justin Stokes will be hunting him for us in some hunts.

I will begin hunting the bluetick female I mentioned earlier in the hunts starting next weekend.

Be looking for Rock and Lucy in the winners circle at some local hunts in this area.

We will be having a BBOA sectional Hunt on November 7th at our local club in Ashford. Our club will be voting on what prizes above and beyond the BBOA trophies we are going to have. Look forward to seeing all those who can attend. Plenty of Hotels, Motels, restaurants in Dothan about 15 minutes from the clubhouse.

Dangitttt Bluetick sectional Nov. 07..... Nov 05-10 is the peak of the rut in Nebraska/Iowa where I hunt.. I'm Leaving out Oct 30 or so and wont be back till Nov. 15th. Building a cabin/lodge while up there this year, so not sure how much hunting I'm gonna get done.

Rock has had first strike, first tree on every turnout in the two hunts that he's been in since I got him back a couple weeks ago. I had mine won till the last 5 minutes, Rock and a nice walker female split about 1000 yards apart, found her coon, didn't find rocks.

Stokes won his last night w/ first strike, first tree on 2 trees. Stokes is usually a walker man.... He said he's gonna get his $500 won so he can take him to Nationals....

I told him, Get on it doggone it.... HAHAHAH

Rock

I had a younger brother to Rock out of the second cross. He is just like you describe these young dogs out of Rock. He was too young to start the first kill season he was here. I drove down to feed my dogs one morning and let him out of the pen. He was about 4 months old. He kept circling my truck and then started treeing on the tire. I went over to see what he was doing and there was a dead coon in the back of my truck my buddy put there two nights before. He has never seen or smelled a coon before that. The line of dogs Mr.Arnold breeds are natural PERIOD. Rock will reproduce the same.

Rocks Pup Treed

Casey'

I sent Casey a video of my Female Treeing. I don't know how to post it or I would. Maybe Casey will do it for me? I have owned at least 4 females in the last 7 years that would run and tree their own coon. None of them have been worthy in my opinion of breeding to my Grand Nt male that has now past. I have semen stored on him and plan on breeding my female out of Rock to. I plan on putting titles on he before I AI her, but she is turning into a nice hound that will win her fare share of Cast's. I have seen traits in this female that are hard to come across. I'm looking forward to a future cross.

Crud Casey,
I was looking forward to letting Craig guide our places and take my chances to draw out with you guiding on your boat. If you're looking for a lawyers assistant I can make a pretty good cup of coffee and know my abc's for filing. As long as I get to go along on the hunt I'm open for a new job

With Rock, Zero, Poncho and Frog I think we are getting some good blues coming on in the deep south.

Casey has some good pups off of Zero as well as some nice females of his own to cross on any of his males, I've got a nice female and Craig has two nice females that we plan on finishing out this comp season. We should be bringing in nice genetics, no real line breedings just coondog to coondog.

Rock is definitely a good addition to this package and I can't wait to get some pups out of him. I've not had many hounds that are running and treeing good at less than a year old and look forward to getting ahold of some.

Rock got another PKC cast win/split since last post... He is action packed and makes something happen.

I wish I had a 14 month old superstaked/performanced pup that operated exactly like him..

Maybe I will when the pounder female comes in...

I think super stakes will be right up that crosses alley. Is there anyone with good gyps that you'd like to cross on Rock if we superstaked him?
