Well, if it is the city of Richmond trying to gain more, then I guess we have wore out our welcome with the extra revenue that is generated there each year. They want more.
It may time to move on to another city that would welcome and appreciate the cash flow brought into the area.
Heck, even the NFL teams get whole stadiums built at tax payers expense to keep them in the city.
Maybe if UKC threatens to move the Oaks Richmond will build UKC their own grounds to hold the event!

I kind of wondered last year when I saw the traffic counter at the main gate. This was probably in the works last year.

That traffic counter has been there a good 5 years and I was there when the coon club had the autumn oaks meeting with ukc and I never heard one word about the charge for parking coming from the city of Richmond!

You want to see how to host a hunt I suggest you go to Salem, Illinois for the PKC world hunt. The whole town rolls out the red carpet all week.

From the guys that I have talked to that are a part of the club that holds AO, Dustin is right it's not the town of Richmond.

Allen has already addressed it in the Thoughts On Paying To Get Into Autumn Oaks thread.

Like everyone else; we have to always try to keep our income to expense ratio in check. Yes, AO brings in a lot of income but unfortunately it comes with a huge expense also. Probably far more than most would expect.

Sometimes for the sake of not raising fees for our participants we have to look at other avenues. This is one of those. That $5 per vehicle fee will help a lot.

I'm sure for most of you, who question this fee, it is more about the principal opposed to the small fee itself; right? We understand that. However, I can assure you all that this is not a matter of taking advantage of an opportunity for the sake of greed. It is, IMO, a small fee that is well justified and for the right reasons.

Be aware that any participant; be it a vendor or someone with a dog entered in the event will receive a free pass. And that the parking fee applies to Friday and Saturday only. When you drive in on Friday you'll pay the $5 and get a pass to hang in your window. No more charges to you for the rest of the weekend.

i agree 5 dollars is not bad.. some of it might go to help with cleaning up the fair grounds. cuz i no when i leave on sunday there is alot of trash laying around from people who obviously dont care.. i think its a great event. an garrenteed it will not keep me from going... an my opinion on the four wheelers an such. it is prolly cuz of all the kids that are riding them an acting a fool on them when they get out of sight from there parents

Utv's

I can sort of understand this. But for like my parents my mother can't do all the walking. They bought a mule and had planned on bringing it this year to be able to get around. They have rented a golf cart in the past. I could see if you are caught racing around and acting a fool you are asked to leave and not allowed back. But I guess rules are rules. 5$ to get in not bad, I will pay that but who knows if my parents don't go my family might not either.

Walkerman75, you bring up an obvious concern that makes us cringe when we see it. Considering the crowded walkways and the unsupervised adolescents flying around; it's a serious liability. All it takes is one accident and the result can be astronomical. Insurance is already at a premium without the atv's in the mix.

Mike you're Mule will be just fine so long as the driver is an adult with a valid driver's license and has proof of insurance. All side-by-side type vehicles are still approved. It's the four-wheeler ATV's that are not.

My wife was hit by a kid on a four wheeler last year just as we where leaving. Didn't knock her down but the grips on the tire messed her leg up and the next day it was bruised pretty good. The kid just kept going and was gone by the time I got there. We went around looking for them to tell his parents but he was nowhere to be found. She said he couldnt of been over 10 years old.

Maybe they will take the gate money and update the restrooms and shower facillities? lol I'm camping all week and hunting so the charge doesnt effect me. Im surprised it took this long to ban the 4 wheelers I've seen a few near misses in the past few years. I'm glad that the side by sides are still ok I personally know several older guys who would not have came if they were outlawed.

I think everyone is stuck on the "change" thing. Just like people still swear up and down the 220 and DC30 are the best... I've been paying to get into AKC dog shows and into many different events my whole life. I think that maybe the $5 ever fee will deter some of the disgusting individuals who have no respect for the grounds and let their dogs waste be left everywhere all over the grounds. I can only imagine the cost of clean up for those grounds, not to mention cleaning all the doorways of pee since every male that goes in a door hikes. I think if a $5 entry fee us going to stop you from coming then your not really there to support the sport in the first place. On the other hand, I think the conformation show is a good idea... But why did they take away some of the funnest classes of the show. I guess we will see after this year the take away from changing the events will be. Either way I'm looking forward to another Autumn Oaks!
