Yes sir...that is why it's called dip. Only way we have ever done it. Used to get the concentrate from Southern States stores. I cant remember the exact mix but it was just the concentrate mixed with water and dunk the dogs in. It really didn't hurt them, but some dogs would kind of freak out being lifted up and plunged down into a barrel of liquid. It had an odor like bug spray and if I remember right the concentrate was like the color of light whiskey. As soon as it was mixed with water the whole mess turned like milk.
It worked better if you first wetted the dogs head with the stuff to drive the fleas down onto his body. Then dunk him up to his neck. A badly infested dog, if not done this way, would end up with fleas all over his head. This coupled with the dunking caused them to freak out. You never plunge the dogs head under the liquid.
It was/is a very effective way to rid kennel dogs of a flea infestation quickly and at a reasonable cost and time.
Edit: In the summer during flea season if you kept the barrel covered you could use it for several times.
