Hope the experienced hunter is proud as heck !!

Yes he did have a rewarding hunt. On his first hunt he learned a very valuable lesson. Teach your dog to stay on the tree.

If a dog stays treed for the five and comes to greet it's handler and goes back and resumes treeing. Give that dog the benefit of the doubt. HE IS TREED. It shouldn't matter if he retraces his steps back to the tree with his nose down or does back flips. HE IS TREED. If he has the meat PLUS HIM UP. If he doesn't MINUS HIM. Come on guys. This is the easiest way to minus a coon dog and that's why the folks that minus a dog for it use it. PERIOD.

If a dog comes off the tree a little ways and goes right back to the tree, he can do cart wheels on his way back and shows tree he should be given plus points if the coon is there. There is no rule about him putting his nose down on the ground on the way back, that is like the famous under the canopy of the tree trick, just another myth some cheats use to their advantage!!!! My uncle used to get minused for this all the time. He couldn't break her from it. He would tell them before the hunt that she would do it and everyone agreed it was no big deal. They wouldn't minus her the first time or two but after she got to winning the hunt then they would start to minus her. She was a coondog and I never seen her lose a hunt as far as putting coon up a tree but I never seen her place either because they would always minus her after she was winning. Just another reason why papers and titles don't make them coondogs.

minus

If it was questioned and the boy was not satisfied with the judges call, he should have questioned that minus and tokk it back to the master of hounds, if there were any witnesses there on his side they could tell there stories as well.
Or should have been a cast vote?

Dont know wasnt there!

My guess the 17 yr old boy had a Coondawg and was beating the judges dog and the judge was going to do anything in his power to get ahead of his competitor! Seen the dogs nose on the ground and he took his advantage of getting ahead.
