Thanks, I was spelling it wrong. Imidicarb, brand name Imizol is used to treat one strain of Erlichiosis. Apparantly, there are a couple of different strains. If your doxycycline or tetracycline doesn't work then you might try Imizol injections according to the study I saw. The acute phase of Erlichiosis lasts about 3 weeks after infection and if not treated then becomes chronic. I would think that most people would not catch it in the acute phase. It sounded to me like you should go ahead and give the Imizol injections in conjunction with the doxy or tetracycline just to be safe. Isn't the interweb/Google great?

Erlichia CANIS ( TICK DISEASE )

I JUST READ UR POST, I HAD THIS PROBLEM 2 YEARS AGO TO MY POPS BLUETICK, HE HAD IT SO BAD HE DID NOT WANT TO EAT AND HAD DIRREA
AND COULD NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT GOIN HUNTING, WE DID THE FOLLOWING AND HAD GREAT SUCESS AND STILL GOIN, I KNOW THIS WORKED FOR US AND HE IS DOIN GREAT NOW,

IMIZOL INJECECTION
MINOCYCLINE HCL CAPSULES 100 MG
AZITHROMYCIN 250 MG
METRONIDAZOLE 500 MG
CENTRINE CAPSULES .2 MG
FORTIFLORA ( CAINE NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENT

EVER DOG WILL BE DIFFERENT BECAUCE OF SIZES (WEIGHT)
WE ALSO LAID HIM UP AND PUT A BIG FAN ON HIM, BECAUSE THIS HAPPEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SUMMER AND ITS VERY HUMID HERE IN THE SOUTH.

I HAVE HAD GREAT RESULTS WITH THE FOLLOWING PREVENTIC TICK COLLAR BY VIRBAC.

I ALSO HAVE HAD GREAT RESULTS WITH THE SERESTO FLEA AND TICK COLLAR BY BAYER,

At THIS TIME I Am TRYING A CHEWABLE TABLET BY BRAVECTO.

MY PERSONAL OPINION WHERE I LIVE IN THE SOUTH I WILL PROLLY HAVE THE FOLLOWING ON MY DOGS BY THE 1st OF APRIL, (BRAVECTO TABLET, AND THE PREVENTIC TICK COLLAR) I WOULD RATHER SPEND A LITTLE EXTRA MONEY ON PREVENTION THAN HAVE A DOG DOWN BECAUSE OF THE ERLICHIA

I had problems with my vets even knowing what Imizol was , so that automatically was a no answer , so I looked it up and printed it off to show them . Of coarse my dog came down with this last summer so it's too late but I will have it here in case next 1 gets this .

I'm goin call and ask my vet bout imizol tommorrow. I do have him on 300 me Doxy but only for 3 weeks I might call get a few second opinions. I really believe I caught mine very early. He was not himself in woods but still doin good. But had a not come up on his neck I was getting checked is how I caught it. Ended up being swollen lymph nodes.

I had the same problem around here, however it was recommended to me by a vet (who runs a vet supply business) so I pushed the issue with them

turns out its used (or was at least then) a lot more the further south you go, as they see the disease more and have more experience with treatments.

I suspect we see it more in hounds regardless of location because of the habit of hunting them across the US in the constant quest for hunt wins. so they are exposed to it more
