Good Job to those that have tagged birds already! Ohio's season just kicked off today, but it poured rain last night and nothing gobbled this am.

LOVE those pics of the gobblers fighting!! I hope to see that some day!

I tagged out May 1,2015 at 6:45am. 10.5" beard; 1 1/4 spurs. He had been roosting in the same spot for the last 3 mornings. Slipped in behind him before daylight. Got about 60 yards from him. Called to him & he answered. Came in on a string!
I'm done! Hard season, they quit gobbling before the 1st week was over around here. Season opens way too late IMO.

Two gobblers. Have to be over 6" beards. A lot of turkeys this year. My buddy and I heard 16 one morning sitting in one spot the week before youth season. But they were hen'd up bad all season. Not many killed around here. Ought to be even more 2 yr olds!

I think he was talking to the other Bob. lol

Nice turkeys everyone! Been out a couple times but can't get into this late season turkey hunting. Too hot. Too many skeeters. Birds are too quiet. Rather go trout fishing.

That is what thermocells are for!

Late season is best. It takes me most of the month to finagle a free morning or two. If I had to do early season, I would be buying a license and never get to hunt.

What a sissy ! LOL

Come on up Todd , you'll hear some gobbling.
Took a guy from over by Larry out and called him in a nice bird mother's day morning just before the rain hit.
24 lbs.
1 3/8 spurs
2 beards - a 10 1/2 and 6 3/4.
Shot at 6:25 , raining by 6:45.

Gotta get your priorities straight Larry ! LOL
Either season is fine with me. We always seem to find a dumb one ! LOL

Here's my bird from last week -

19.8LBs
10 1/4" Beard
1 1/8 Spurs

My dad and I had been after these birds off and on all season. We had a thick fog roll in on Tuesday morning and it got fairly light out before we heard the first gobble. We picked out a tree to sit by and wouldn't you know, there was a water bottle and freshly kicked out dirt and sticks at the base of the tree. Someone, a trespasser, had been in after these birds. We sat down there and began calling.
Was at least 3 birds not far gobbling. Previously, they had been flying down and would run off towards any far off gobbling, so I told my dad to try and use his gobble call. He did some soft yelps on a slate then would follow with a gobble call. Did this a couple times to let the birds know where we were and to make them think another guy was getting their girls.
It got light and they pitched down and started heading away. My dad whispered over for me to try my call to see if I could get them fired up. A couple yelps from my mouth call was all it took to get them boys turned around and heading in.
Minutes later, three white heads started bobbing thru the woods towards us. They spotted the decoy and I let her take over, but they were very cautious. They stopped out in some brush and I thought it was over, but the lead bird broke off and kept coming for the decoy. He finally got in the open and I hit him with the call to get him to stop and stick his head up. He did and my new Mossberg 500 brought him right down!
My dad tried to swing on the other two, but they ran like the wind and were gone in seconds.

My dad bagged one this past Tuesday also!
