Time & $

I think I would limit myself to how many dogs I would keep at my house. The next thing would be to only hunt 1 young dog at a time. Anytime I tried to hunt two young ones by alternating nights, one always got the bad nights.

I would have also granded out my old pigeon female. Will always regret not doing that.

The kicker though is how much time and money I have wasted. We could have already had our house paid for. Probably would have enough in savings to be able to help with a newer SUV for my wife and later on a newer truck for me. As a result, my wife drives a 2000 tahoe with 220,000 miles......and I drive a 98 dodge ram 1500 with 364,000 miles.

I would never change the friends and buddies I have made though. Some really great folks in the sport.

Great post.

I regret the stupid mistakes I made and the moments of carelessness that caused the death of two of my dogs. One was the best I ever had and the other was a good dog too. What heart breaking experiences both were.

to many young dogs at a time, im guilty of that over and over.

few years ago started running yotes with some young blueticks that were not getting it done on coon how i liked. one night coon hunting male and female blue they took yote several miles and crossed major highway. young female blue got killed dead and male got road rashed but stayed clear of any vehicle rest of time i owned him.

Cliff

Few years ago.. Wish I had stayed home after working 17 hours night before. New years eve my young's sons first. I have my first tracking system and a grandson of Bean Blossom Buck best dog I ever owned of about 90 days. Because that night he and a little Red Timber Copper female went over a Ky. River Cliff that night when shooting out a coon. I will never ever forget that night. It was my sons first and last night because he loved those dogs.

Don't know if there is any one thing I would, That's really the only way you learn an grow as a person. I might have kept the cinnamon coon , might have not went on ole man smith not knowing he had a bull in the pasture, but I know now how fast they can run lol.

Regret I did not make a cross with Hardwood Buster and Flatrock Coma in the early 90s when I had a chance. The dogs I had back then were real track dogs just real short on mouth/layup ability. In 1987 I owned the best/fastest track dog I have ever owned,Bred him just once and he put coondogs on the ground, got him run over the next week.Grass aint always greener on the other side....Biggest regret I have is not getting Ragin Bo collected

My hunting buddies uncle asked me if I wanted to go with him to look at a pup., maybe him or I would be interested in him. I said no you go ahead. A man who we knew was getting a divorce. The man was john guilford. Well the uncle got smart mouthed with the woman and was asked to leave with out the pup. A few months later the dog was sold and named Finley River Chief.

Same here.
I walked away from it all to run around. I got back into it in enough time to hunt with dad while he still could but he has quit.
When I quit we was hunting with a guy that was like a grandpa to me because mine had died when I was young.

I would give all my worldly possessions to have one more weekend of hunting with the two of them.

I would never mess with pups. I'd only buy finished dogs that were exactly what I wanted and I'd hit the hunts.

I dont regret a min of it.Dont know if Id do nothing over. Good nights or bad nights. Now we even ran over a guy one night. Didnt kill him or nothin. He was passed out drunk in a field. Been shot at. Saw dogs die. Its just part of things. Im still going. Nobody in my family except my great grandpa hunted any coon. I didnt get started till I was about 19. I guess thats the thing Id change. Id of started earlier.

What was scary is. We hollered at him and he looked dead to me. So we take off to PAY phone 5 mile away to call 911. Then eneded up taking him to jail. Cause he was drunk I guess. Didnt hurt him at all from truck running over him. Was a miracle I recken.

Not much, I owned my share of descent hounds, and got to hunt about as much as I wanted through work and life. The thing I would change; I'd spend a whole lot more time with my kids, taking them places they wanted to go.

only to enjoy it more like I used too, remember when I was a kid we hunt all night long and maybe tree a coon or just run all night long and loved every minute of it, now i'm ticked if they don't get treed in a few minutes with a coon everytime!

I would of been sitting with both barrels loaded when they came and stole my 2 dogs. then forced one in each side of my dog box, latched the doors , shut the tailgate and slowly let the truck roll to the bottom of the 18 ft deep pond.
before I die.. I will finish the game.
...........................other than that I'm cool with it.
