consistency

I like the fact that the mad dogs are more of a true line. the biggest thing that I hate is having to go through 5 dogs to find one that will tree a coon. I truly believe with line breeding the results are a lot more consistent. I've seen this a lot first hand with the Vaughn breed dogs.

Just my opinion and my observation over the several years I've been hunting. I've draw several different blues from several different lines over the years rather i was hunting walkers at the time or blue dogs. Now this statement was made earlier that some lines are based on one dog. Now that blood line isn't around cause they based it on one dog. My observation is whats behind that dog. Now when i decided to go looking for a blue dog i went hunting with several different ones from several different lines not all lines but several. Than i chosed a dog off rattler. Now this is just my opinion. To me bullet isn't a line he could of been but i say he didn't get bred enough. To me bullet is a hound that tony believed in and tried to promote as much as he could. Same as rattler. But to me bullet is a smokey river bred dog. Bullet just happened to be producing very fine hounds the same as rattler was. And that's y i went that route. But I'm sure everyone has a story good and bad about every line. I just went with what i saw and what seem to suite me. That's just my opinion. Good and bad in all lines.

I also am curious as to why in the walker breed it seems to be such common knowledege as to what lines are better track dogs, what lines are harder tree dogs, ect.
For example in the walker breed most know that the better colder nosed track dogs come from the Finley River, Brookshire, Clover, Coma, Wipeout, ect. Im not just saying that because i read it on here either ive hunted with these dogs that i have had and others around me have had and a lot of what i read on here lines up with what i have seen to be true. I have had a hard time telling the difference (on what i read on here) in the different lines of blues.

Go hunting with some of what you are talking about and for your own opinion. I would bet it would vary some from what you hear on this message board.

another thing

You will notice on the bluetick threads, including this one is when someone ask a question and others try carefully to answer with their OPINION the bluetick clan of wolves sit patiently awaiting to belittle them or label say they are bragging dogs up in some round about way. They are always pointing fingers but never at themselves. Best way is to go hunt with them, I agree!! I dont have the time nor money to drive all over the country so I buy pups and give them a fair chance. I recommend one from your region!!!! Good luck and becareful when giving your opinion with US bluedog folks

Good point Tom. I'm very similar as to what your saying. I didnt have the money to go all over God's green earth trying out every line. I just remembered asking about the ones i drew in hunts that impressed me or caught my attention. Luck had it they were close by.

That's really interesting. The one's I have seen were super mouthy auto strike dogs.

Loose Mouth & Mouthy

MR Spunkmeyer,
How many Mad Dog bred hounds have you hunted with? Not to many I'm a thinkin, I am sure there are exceptions to every rule. The Mad Dogs have been accused of being tight mouth way more times than loose mouth and mouthy, they are more of a 3rd or 4th strike and 1st tree type hound, Come and go hunting with us and see what we have to offer, then we will see if you can make the same statement..............Tim

Tim,

this is one ive been thinking on for some time. can dogs like this work in areas with low coon populations and rough terrain and tracking conditions?

and ifso, do they need to be handled differently or should i say carefully around the tree.

this is not a loaded question or hidden agenda, just wodnering if this style of dog can work in low coon populations where one or 2 coons will win you most hunts

Mad Dogs

Jesse,
As usual I believe you are only Half Right,I don't know of any reason I would say this line was automatic strike dogs, ask anyone that knows me and they will tell you that I hate an automatic strike dog. I will say that these dogs are very quick treedogs, maybe a little to quick when they are young.

Rance,
Most of these dogs hunt hard and wide, drift a track and will get treed and stay put. These dogs are not track straddlers These dogs are quick learners and have proven themselves all over the country in the hunts and for pleasure..........Tim

Let's find out

Talk is as cheap as it sounds, I will Invite anyone on this thread to bring your light , your boots, and anything else you choose and let's do a little hunting, let's find out if my MadDog hounds are mouthy, and let's just see if they can tree coons here in the south where coons are thin, My Grandpa always said, bring the issue into the light were its plain to see and the truth will closed the mouths of the gossipers, no excuses will be made.....Gerald
