So in reality aren't the demands of many hunters today are going against 100s of years of breeding. Asking a hound to work outside of the pack, get deep alone, and stay hooked right or wrong?
Dogs hunting alone may be more a result of how they are started and trained than breeding. Twenty years ago and before, pups were started in pack formats and always hunted with other dogs. So how you think they are gonna hunt from then on?
Today those pups are often started and hunted alone and with the Garmins, it is instantly known when a pup drops a track to cover a tree and many times they get shocked for it. The new generation of trainers will not hesitate to shock a dog for covering another dogs tree. So how you think those dogs are gonna hunt? They are gonna hunt alone and often times, their first priority is to get away from any other dogs simply because they relate being around other dogs with getting shocked.
Breeding likely plays a role in how they hunt today but I'm very sure in my own mind that the Garmin/TriTronics and how we train them plays the bigger role.
