Or maybe you have....all your life, and you still cant see a coon in the summer. I have a hard time finding them, so I have to make them move, or look.

Been doing it since I was old enough for my grandfather to carry me. And still have trouble sometimes.

You and me sound alike in that regard. My fourteen year old can find'em though. The other night he spotted a coon move his ear and pointed him out to me. I wish I could find them like that.

Partial color blindness affects my coon finding I think.

skeets, your dad is right. i hunt squirrels and have done so for 15 years. i used 12 x 50 binoculars and have gotten better and better over the years at finding them. i have a techniqic and a skill. but with coons i'm terrible.

I run in there. Screaming and hollering. Cussing and beating. Skeers everything to death. Coons cant usually believe it. So they look at me like Im crazy. It works. Just try it.

Its not always an option but if im able I get back as far away from the tree as I can. For some reason it seems like they look a little better for me when you get way back. Also sometimes tapping the tree will make them nervous and they'll start moving around if they wont look.

Hunted a couple nights ago. We treed 5 times, saw 2 coons. Not one time did the coons look at us. We found the body on the 2 we saw. Had red, amber, and green lights, we both had squallers, and couldn't get any to look! The other 2 trees were in the middle of the woods, and you couldn't even get a light up half way into the tree. One tree was slick for sure. Probably should have just shot the dogs, because of those 2 trees where we couldn't shine the trees...................LOL

An old timer told me once if the squaller, clapping, and bagging on a tree doesn't work pull your dog back where it's pretty quiet and rattle your keys. I've done this several times after not being able to find it with squalling and they looked right at me. I guess it's something there just not use to but it's worth a shot.
