Just got my Sunfire Ultra today. Talked with Dean last week and was told about the upgrade. It has been hard to not spread the news. I currently own a Laser Torch Pro. It is a very good light. So far the best I have owned. The truth why I bought the Ultra is because I get caught up in owning the best and brightest available. Like I said I just got the Ultra today and have not used or compared the Ultra with my Torch Pro. I have read alot of good things about the Ultra and hope it delivers. I had no Idea about the upgrade when I bought the light. I called and talked to Dean about when he thought my light would be delivered and that's when he told me I would be getting an upgraded version of the Ultra. Which was awesome news. Thanks Dean. I can't wait to see how it compares to the Laser Torch Pro. This I can tell you about comparing the lights. The chargers look the same and hookup and charge in the same fashion. I like the Laser Torch Pro hard hat better than the Ultra. The weights feel real close to the same. The Ultra has a much smaller head than the Pro. The Ultra head mount is adjustable (angle), the Pro is not. More on the comparisons once I get to use it.

Just got done comparing them. Pro is 6 position switch for the white light. The new Ultra has 4 postions for the white light. The Pro is a whiter light. Click for click they are about the same for the first 3 clicks. The 4th and highest click on the Ultra goes SUPER bright. It was much brighter than my Pro on its highest setting(6 the click). The Ultra is also a wider beam on bright. Now I just need to see how it compares with a long hard night of hunting. I must point out my Pro has never let me down and has never given me any problems ever. Hopefully the Ultra will prove to have the same results of reliability as the Pro has. Time will tell.

Ron if the Sunspot is what you like then that's all you need. Even though we stopped making them a year ago as long as I am in business I will stand behind it.

You are right we do come out with new lights regularly, its to stay in business in a competitive market. I wouldn't have lasted very long if I would have just built the original Sunspot and said " well that's good enough". Only so many people are going to buy a certain light. When you start getting close to that number you have to come up with something new for them.

I could wright a list of lights that will satisfy 95% of the coonhunters made by men with integrity that stand behind the quality product that they make. A couple of them have posted on this thread. Its up to the hunter to decide what they want and its up to me to try and provide it to them. This is just another option.

I have had my Sunfire for a little over a year now with no issues and it has never let me down. If you have upgrades to make it brighter than it is all already. All I can say is WOW!!!!! What does it cost to have a Sunfire upgraded Or trade? If you don't want to post on here shoot me a P.M. I would like to see it if it can get brighter. I don't know why you would need it any brighter because Ray Charles could find a coon with the one I have. I just can't wrap my mind around it being brighter than what I already have. The sunfire will burn a tree down. I'm not doubting you I know if you say it is brighter I trust you. The Sunfire has been the best and brightest light I have ever had the pleasure of owning. If it can be made brighter I'm sold sign me up...

HOOTOWLMAN,

the Ultra is now 100,000+LUX compared to the 55,000 LUX that you have so the brightness has doubled. We will upgrade your light or trade whatever makes you happy just let us know and we will make it happen.

I will say something that may or may not matter...but feel like it needs to be said...

I have been a valley creek customer for years, and with the exceptional customer support i understand first hand why they have the business and support they do with hunters. I also live close by to a feller named sam davis, and also a fella named pudgy. BOTH these men are top knotch HUNTERS and have helped me in all ways possible...
That being said, Bruce is a Great guy that has a great light. Bruces customer support is also top of the line and he has a fella in ky that knows how to squeeze the most out of a lightbulb and a battery. Redgy and bruce both are as good as you can get in knowledge of equipment and everything else you may need..and they will stand behind their products!

Forget what side your buddy is on or what ole so n so said and look over what they have and get what YOU need!

P.S. The brightest light is nothing more than bragging rights..

Rac sacker you are exactly right and we at valley creek appreciate your buisness and our customer service takes backseat to no company..We are at as many hunts as anyone in the country..We dont pick and choose which ones we go by the amount of money to be made..We go because we love these things..That beind said.
We carry every light that Mr.Sam makes...We carry everything that Mr.Rosamond makes and we carry quite of few of Mr.St.Johns..We dont get caught up in the game that only the ones with our sticker are the best or brightest. We carry them all and let you the customer decide..Without customers no one will survive in this buisness..
If you are in the market for a new light we try to satisfy!

I hope that's true 3 days ago he was making fun of and claiming it couldn't be done. A light dealer advertises it and now they can all do it? And his is just a touch brighter. Ya right.

I own a home inspection business and we have 8 different light meters. I already own one of them and I'm having it upgraded. I have two buddies that are ordering the other 2. I'm going to post pics of the meter readings. Like I said I hope they are not blowing smoke.

The britest lite

Good point Blue banger. A few short days ago, my statements on the Sunfire were being questioned...with in the same week it would seem others have discovered the technology to produce the same results. That is a good deal for everyone...they will even list the lux reading so any one ready to make a purchase can make a very informed decision.Mr. Conkey....would you mind telling us what the lux reading was on the Hotspot prior to the new upgrade?

.

Mr. Richard up until you pointed out to us we may be missing the boat not giving lux readings to our customers we were were happy just keeping that information to ourselves.

You asked for it and we decided to do it. Now everyone wants to question it. lol

To answer your question.
"would you mind telling us what the lux reading was on the Hotspot prior to the new upgrade"
I will give you a couple answers to that. I think it was Wednesday or Thursday Joey called me and told me on the phone that the HOTSPOT he had was the same brightness as his light.
His light was being advertised as 55,000 lux so if we agree on Joey's statement our light was 55,000 LUX.
Our meter showed our light slightly brighter. On our meter which is a pretty accurate meter the LUX was at 62,000 which means looking at both lights they would look about the same.

Thank you Mr. Conkey....I am not questioning the 100,000 lux reading at all, remember, I was the one that originally posted that Sunfire had surpassed the 100,000 lux club. So I was fully aware that this lux reading is very possible.Looking forward to seeing all of these lites in action.

These light wars definitely help the consumer..There are some great lights out there and there are some great salesman out there...One thing for sure you should find one to your liking..If you don't like pop covers then your choices get fewer quicker...Just got back from the chkc little world hunt and sold a few of the new lights that we had that were ready...Glad that they were ready and on the shelf!

L. Richard - Michael and I discussed this procedure about a year ago, and that is about all we did - at that time, no concrete conclusions. As far as the upgrade, we are offering the hand held spotlight both ways, with the upgrade and without. Right now I am on the fence about upgrading ol Blue, or offering a completely new head with more upgrades - we will make a decision before AO. As you well know, after the upgrade procedure is performed the color emitted turns yellowish, lumens drop, and the spot is tighter. My position stems from our customer reviews, some like and some don't. Right now we are enjoying the slow season, and making preparations for the upcoming hunting season. If we can help you give us a call.

Sam is correct we had a discussion about this over a year ago. For Sunspot we made several changes to the light that took care of the negative draw backs to the change like the lumen output drop, smaller spot and color change. Although there is a color change we chose a much cooler led so that the change was more to a natural clear color rather than a real yellow. It does have some yellow to it but not as drastic as the ones that didn't make this change. We also made a reflector change 2 months ago so that our spot size didn't change. We made a current change so that our lumen output did not change. We made a battery change so that our burn times didnt change. We changed the materiel that our led is setting on so that the current change did not effect the junction temp of the led. We changed the material of our wire to reduce the bottle necks of energy to make our light more efficient.

We made a lot of changes to the light in preparation for this change. It was not a last minuet thing for us to try to mach another light. I applaud Sams decision to take his time and do this correctly. I also welcome Mr Blue Banger to test my light and let the world know the results.

This is a bad cell phone pic but it lets you see that the spot size did not change. On a wall there might be a very fraction of a difference but its so close you can not tell it in the woods.
