Alex and Josh Rain from MN also feed raw and LOVE it. I have found that mostly its those "fancy pantsy" type people that do it but I dont find it hard in the least, possibly even easier lol and none of the dogs ever miss a meal, and I get to feed less LOL call during the day if you can, as I work a night shift.

Whats the average cost for one hound a month to feed raw?

Well, I paid $100 (roughly) about a month ago, and still have about 12 days of beef left, about a week of organ and need more "bone" (I ran out today)

I bought 150 lbs of beef, 25 lbs of chicken backs, 25 lbs of chicken necks and 50 lbs of organ meat.

But I originally had 2 hounds and a mastiff that ate 2x as much as either hound. So, I'd say I'd say that I'd you feed the 5% of their ideal body weight, for four hounds weighing (ideally) 50 lbs each, will cost about (from where I get it from, prices will vary based on where to get your meat from) $100 but that is almost exact what I was paying for kibble.

BUT I feed about half of what they claim is recommended and hunt my dogs 3-5 days a week and run them 2-3 miles 5-7 days a week via bicycle or wheeler.

It's kind of tricky at first, getting the right amount of muscle meat, getting the right amount (and types) of organ, getting the right amount of bone (and once again, the right type). It seems really intimidating, but after a week or so it's almost easier.

It's suggested that you use a variety of meats, for example, beef, chicken, Turkey, fish, venison and so on, as well as not having more than 5% of their diet consist of liver/kidney, I done remember which one lol

Is your thinking of doing a raw diet, I will tell you exactly what Alex told me. Research it. Decide what you want to feed ahead of time and map it out.

No where in my post did I say chemicals are not hazardous. Trust me I know that as well as anyone. Number one we have over 1200 chemical reagents that I am responsible for at work. I was also a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager for 5 years. My Master's degree is in Hazardous Materials Management. I say this to only illustrate just how well I am aware of chemical hazards.

My comments were in regards to how the media paint an agenda of chemical hysteria, and the public accepts it without all the facts. As per the advances we have made in the environment here is one example: http://www.epa.gov/40th/achieve.html .

Hazards take many forms. We can use chemicals, and can use chemicals safely if we first educate ourselves to the proper handling, storage, and use of chemicals. There is no excuse for misuse, and yes misuse can result in health issues.

My post was to simply state that cancer is a highly variable illness, and to simply say chemicals are to blame is accepting the media's hysteria claims.

Is it possible that a percentage of cancer in dog's is related to chemical exposure? Yes, but i suspect it is much lower than many believe.

back in the day, many years ago chemicals were really used with little or no safety. the rivers and streams were full of dumps and sinking boats and ships. the epa wasn't even dreamed of then. an old man told me he used to swim in the ms river and he always had sores from it. another old man here in north carolina used to go swimming in the little branches. he said you always had to swim through an oil film and who knows what else. no one knew because no one cared. there were little to no warnings and no one wore rubber gloves or dust masks.
i think the diseases are simply part of the curse. all we can do is think GOD for the advanced medical care we have that helps us to fight it. looking on the bright side, for the unsaved cancer gives a man time to get right with GOD.
i make feed for my dogs. i use whatever kind of meat i get, road kill deer, fish, freezer burned meat. i cook the meat with carrots and sweet potatos, rice and mix that with purina dog chow. they love it. i don't know if it helps them but it might and they like it so that's why i do it.
