Hunt winners are put in the yearbook every year from about every decent sized hunt there is and for whatever they place .. and showdogs... and in the back there is always the list of winners and placers for all the big hunts going year and years back.

But , the guys that do as John said seldom get credit on the board , in the magazines or mentioned in the yearbook aside from just that they served.

So yeah , the lifetime achievement is for those that devote their time to the Assoc. and others not just to hunting , breeding or selling dogs ....

Nothing is stopping a man from being recognized for his hard work if his peers , friends or family want to run an ad or write an article or just tell him personally ...

Start taking 2 or 3 a year so we can start getting some of these guys in.

Let's face it, there is a long list of guys who are more than worthy to receive it. I'd vote for Art, Lawton, or Gene equally. All have promoted the breed and helped the association as officers or directors or both. But there are plenty more as well. Let's get these guys in!

The membership voted to make the rules the way they currently are. The membership can vote to change them, as well. But until then, they are what they are.

Isn't there a couple that received life membership and never served on the board,or held an office?

Only those members that can afford or have the time to travel to black & tan days vote on the rules or any by-law changes. Of the membership what percentage is that, maybe 5% or less. I agree with skydiver, ballots should be mailed to all members. Allowing more than one individual to be granted lifetime is something that is pass due. I believe Gene was one of the magazine writers for the association many years ago. What is the reasoning behind allowing only one lifetime per year?

funny thing is , it looks to me like anyone can waltz into the meeting and vote .... not that it matters greatly , but it's just an odd thing to run a club like that ... I think most here can agree that alot of issues that are voted on leave you scratching your head as to how it came out that way ...

How do we know what the majority is? Is it based on the opinions posted on this message board? I have been to I believe the last 4 or 5 meetings at Black and Tan days and there are way more people that hold a hand up to say yes or no than there are that post an opinion in the message board! Not saying that the ballot is a bad idea but I am saying that if people think that what is posted on this message board is the way the majority always feels then y'all will believe I'm a French model!

Personally I think only being able to vote at Black and Tan days is a good thing! It possibly could be something that helps the strong numbers that Black and Tans days gets! Maybe wanting to feel as though you had a hand in the decisions that the assoc makes is what it takes to get some of the guys and gals on the fence on going to or staying home to come to Black and Tan days and support it!! Entries = $$$ and 9/10 times if your going you'll enter something!! That helps the assoc even more!

Billy they do not need to have served on the board or served in office to be nominated for this award.
Now there might be a lot of guys and gals that deserve this award or be considered for it. I would say that if someone nominates someone then they probably think that person deserves the award. Now lets get realistic if everyone got the award that people felt they should would this award really have any merit or value. I am sure over the last 20 yrs there were members that could have deserved this award and had never gotten it and I am sure over the next 20 yrs. there will be members that would deserve this award that won't receive it either. To those members for dedicated service to the Assoc. I really don't think it matters to them. Now if they would feel that they were slighted by the Assoc. for not receiving this award then there dedication service was for the wrong reasons.

Put this in perspective at BNT days you usually have around 300 dogs hunting on Thursday night. Yes some dogs have the same owner but even then You probably Have 250 members of the ABTCHA at this hunt. Now you have at least 60 to 70 dogs in the show. Yes some owners will have more then 1 dog entered. Then you will have quite a few members there that don't even hunt or show in the hunts but are there for pleasure hunting, helping out and for the fellowship. So I would say it is very easy to say there is probably 300 members + of the BNT Assoc. at this 1 hunt and location. So as a National Organization of about 1200 you have 300 of your members gathering in one spot which is 25% of your members. I believe in Flora one year there was over 30 states and Canada representing the hunt. So with that being said I don't think mailing ballots out would really have any affect on the outcome of the vote.
DirtDevil you are correct anyone could walk in sit down and vote. The meeting and voting is pretty well an honor system by there members. I would hope that if someone wants a rule changed that they wouldn't bring a bunch of friends with them that weren't members just to sway the vote. If they did and I found out about it I would plaster it all over the internet and take out a full page add in the breed Assoc. yearbook so all members would know..

there are NOT 300 members voting .... there might be that many there ... but it's a guess , even I'm guessing cuz I just been once but it looked like maybe 100 at most .... but the point is , we mail out a newsletter and take memberships through the mail and do our ads through the mail and everything else .. so why not have the continuity and do ballots ... is it not an improvement and a more fair way to treat EVERY paid member ?

I think all you guys that think they should have ballots sent in the mail and then sent back for everything that gets voted on at BNT days need to come to BNT Days. Volunteer your name for the board get elected and then be in charge of the ballots and receiving the ballots get them counted ASAP and then let us know immediately how the vote results were. I am sure it would not be as efficient as sending out the year books to members and I saw a lot of complaining wining and crying last year

Now I wouldn't be opposed to ballots sent out to all members for a vote if the executive board had urgent business that needed to be voted on and they thought it was in the best interest of the ABTCHA and it could not wait till BNT Days general membership meeting. I don't know that this would follow the by-laws. Though it could come under where the President would deem this necessary to care out the business and interest of the Association.

MAYBE

THE Ballot could be included as part of the Newsletter. That would save Money. Also the Members that can't go to B&T Days could Vote. Every Member & Only Paid Up Members could vote.

Nobody's saying all black & tan association business should have ballots mailed to all members, but by-law changes and lifetime memberships are two that certainly wouldn't hurt to have ballots mailed to all members.
