Although not hounds.....

.....These two, father and daughter, would grab your arm occasionally if you didn't break their concentration at the tree, especially at night......It was an intensity thing, not illness......

I wonder how many of the people making excuses for these type of dogs accualy believe the same thing isn't happening under the tree before we get there.........and how many dog fights it causes

ive only had 1 try and bite me in all the yrs I coon hunted....well 2 but one was at home not while hunting

both got the same treatment, they got the snot beat out of them until they were on there bellys with there tails tucked pissin all over themselves.

problem was solved in 1 training session

those dogs were:

Ozarks Rebel Pride (while hunting)
grntchgrch boughtons red ruby (here at home over a whipping for killin a chicken)

One night I walked in and leaned on the tree to look up and she grabbed my arm like a vine. I always spoke to her from then on when I came into the tree or reached to leash her up and she was fine after that. I know other guys that have to do that with their dogs. I would just watch to make sure he doesnt facebark or grab at other dogs at the tree. Like I said she knew the routine and the reward for treeing was she couldnt wait to grab that coon was part of her nature. When other dogs were with her she was aware they were there and no problem but alone she did the grab the limb or vine thing. Good luck

Exactly my thoughts. So many folks quick to judge when they weren't there to see what happened. SMH.

The best one I've ever owned, grabbed me by the elbow one night! He was a radical tree dog. As soon as he realized what he had done, he let go. It was just an instant, and it wasn't much more than a bird dog grabbing a bird. I didn't think anything about it, and I never had him in a dog fight. I also trusted him around my 3 year son, who would occasionally end up sittin inside his dog box. To be honest, it was probably more my fault, than the dog! JMO
