I'm saying this as someone with no chance of winning--don't have the dog power and am too old to hunt 3 nights in a row. If I did have the dog power, I'd be using a handler.
Everyone has different ideas of what conditions they are willing to let their dogs hunt in. Some people I know turn their dogs out near highways, with mild injuries, etc.
If my dog comes in from the second hunt with a high score and a limp from stepping on a nail, I don't want to put him in the woods the third night just for a chance to win. If he can win with two cast wins, though, he should.
I would not keep him from hunting just because he had a high score the first two nights.
That's just me. I don't think you can make rules enforcing good sportsmanship, but I don't think there should be an incentive to hunt an injured dog either.
